Need to raise a recessed bathroom slab

Brady Young

I'm remodeling a small bathroom in a ranch style home built in 1957. The bathroom had been remodeled approximately 5 years ago but was a very poor job. I've torn the remodeled tile shower out to find that the slab in the bathroom is about 2" recessed compared to the rest of the house. During the previous remodel it appears they attempted to level the floor to the rest of the slab with some kind of quickcrete but they left the surface very uneven which in turn made the floor tiles uneven. Should I remove the quickcrete down to the original slab level and float in some lightweight concrete? Fill with cement board and self leveling cement? Anyone ever run into this situation before? Thanks for the help!
