I would change out the backsplash and live with the rest of it for a while before making any further decisions.

I would live with the kitchen for a few months to see if the kitchen has any other quirks that you may want to change later on.

I'd add more red. The window valance, rugs and utensil crocks all with red and then the backsplash wouldn't look so out of place. Repainting would help too.

I love your granite.

I would take out the backsplash & paint with high quality paint. See if the counterop works more for your tastes.

Don't waste $ re-doing a backsplash until you know you'll be keeping the countertop.

If later you decide the countertop is not for you & it must go, then do countertop.

Make sure you like the layout & cabinets are in great condition before investing in new countertop.

Wait until new countertop installed bring home 3 favorite tiles. See them in day & night lighting, then choose your favorite.

I agree with artistsharonva's advice to paint. If you are OK with the extra expense for epoxy paint (and you're sure the current backsplash tile will be removed), you can paint it white/off-white now to see if you like the look, before investing in new tile. I've used epoxy paint on tile a couple of times, with very good results.

If you replace the tops, consider a wood top for the island, to warm up the tone of the kitchen a bit. Also, at that time, you might consider switching the DW with the base cabinet to its right, to give yourself more space between the sink and DW.

The wall color isn't doing anything for the other finishes. I would change that first.

I agree about the wall paint color being awful.

I actually like the backsplash. It has personality without being trendy. I consider green to be an almost neutral color. If the red tiles are just too much for you, I would consider removing just the red ones. Maybe replace with mosaics in shades of green and white?

The counters are really pretty.

Personally, could not live with black cabinets. Even thought I'm a little weary of looking at pictures of white cabinets, I would paint the cabinets white and also paint the walls in some shade of just off-white that compliments the green.

I also wonder about changing just the red. This kitchen is not something I would pick, but on the other hand I like the granite and it's nice that it's not a clone of everything else

I actually really like the backsplash. I think the main problem is that nothing is cohesive. To start, I would remove the window valences and paint the walls a shade of white. Id eventually do something about the cabinets because they seem way too dark for me. But really I think the tile backsplash is the most interesting thing about this kitchen.

All it needs is new backsplash, counters, hardware, and wall paint. People would kill for that amount of counter and storage space.

A simple backsplash & a new paint color would go a long way here. A stainless appliances would help also. There is a lot of black going on.

I keep wanting to look at the granite,but my eyes follows the green right up the walls to red diamonds. Red diamonds loses on this hand this time.

I love colors, but not that combo. Togeather it distracts away from the attractive granite.

Good news, it's an easy fix.

The granite is the most attractive thing about that kitchen. Anything else would be fair game for changes. Just calming down the backsplash helps a lot, as PAL shows.
