Thanks ya'all. Update: Green is one of my accent color - i found some green pillows that looked amazing with black and white(cream actually) Who knew? Now I am just stuck with choices for curtains. I do like the idea of chocolate colored drapes but am afraid that would be too much brown considering I have brown tables, the couch has brown legs. The style of the room is not traditional but not quite contemporary either. The room that kathy posted is very elegant, love the color. That and the cappucino are top contenders in my mind. Since i cant afford to go custom with my drapes and have no sewing skills whatsoever I am at the mercy of PB, JCP, BBB and Linens & Things for available colors in curtains. How about rattan shades? Or matchstick blinds? That would look nice. Also, I would limit the pillows a little, they look too crowded. And I LOVE the rug too!

What colors will you use as accents? Navy and ivory/white or BARN red and ivory/white would work with the brown sofa. If you choose navy, then you could accent with barn red or visa versa. These two browns aren't great together but can still work. IF you can paint, I'd go with a taupe wall color. If you don't paint, it can still work, but limit anything brown being added. A rug with a neutral taupe and/or an accent color will help break up the browns. How you style your room will help determine the colors. So think about your final product. What items, fabrics, etc. will you be adding to the room?

I’m following this post because I have the same issue with my living room — dark brown couch and very dark floors — brown overkill! Can I ask for more specific advice, if possible? Should my rug be mostly ivory, with tan accents? Or will the tan color bring in more “brown?” Should I paint the brown wooden top on my fireplace white to eliminate some of the brown in the room?
