Two study areas in the space? Can it be done?
Comments (12)The counter idea would probably give both girls the greatest amount of work space. As for storage, what is being stored? It's probably best to figure out what you are going to store in that area and then chose the storage to fit the items. I like cabinets with drawers or doors to hide lots of little, cluttery looking things; shelves for books and larger objects that don't get that cluttery look. Or shelves with baskets and boxes and bins to help keep things organized. Each girl could have a desk blotter to define her space, and a cork board on the side wall of the alcove. Or you could run shelves up the sides as well as the back of the alcove. Do you need to fit a computer or two in there as well? For that and a lamp or two, you will need electric outlets....See MoreFormal Dining Room as DR/Library/Study Area?
Comments (13)Still undecided here. I think it's best to keep the furniture arrangement like it is. I had considered flipping the two rooms, but don't want the dining table obscuring that first view of the fireplace when you enter the house. So that's decided. Still pondering the suggestions of the storage/shelving being in the other room... The idea the cabinet guy and I came up with is to split the dining wall into thirds, do two 55" bookcase/storage cabinets right up to the ceiling, with an equally sized wainscot between, allowing space for some sort of table I can store stools under (to be used at the table when we need extra seating). I'm also trying to fit in a desk of some sort for a computer, maybe on the opposite dining wall. But I don't want it to look like Apple is taking over our dining room, it's gotta be inconspicuous. I love the look of this room too, and it would fit great with our lifestyle - four kids and lots of homework:...See Morehow to layout a study/guest bedroom with Murphy bed
Comments (13)So center the bed on the large wall and flank it with horizontal filing cabinets whose surface can work for printer, lamps, etc. With a sofa at the window I would put TV on the west wall, desk on the south wall. South wall will be less glare from the window though, so you may prefer desk on the west wall and TV on the south wall. In that case, you might prefer a pair of swivel chairs at the window that can turn to view the TV....See MoreHelp! Need to choose desk layout in kitchen remodel.
Comments (24)I puzzled over your kitchen and I was struck at just how big it is. I checked the dimensions you wrote several times to make sure. I seems like the allocation of space in your original layout is pretty inefficient. Just for fun I did a rough layout showing what it might be like if your garage door moved and your kitchen and nook swapped places. This might be way out of budget. Also, there's no mudroom type situation near the garage. Basically I was trying to make your nook more of an extension of your family room to the left. (The little white circle is to represent a 40" round dining table.) If you could add a window to the left side of the house I might look closer at a layout that places the clean up sink on the exterior wall, but I imagine it would be nice facing the foyer. Again, posting this just for fun and throwing out ideas you may not have considered yet......See Moreelysel123
