Should sides of shower niche be same tile as back wall of niche?
Comments (15)There initially was a comment before mine dated May 26, 2017 which was deleted. It does look silly without it still being there. Many pros look at the date prior to opening a thread. There is a current thread in the pro to pro section on this very topic due to some recent Houzz format changes. By using an old thread you are short changing yourself on available advise. Also due to the rapid advances in technology and products available now many responses given 5 years ago will not be the same as the ones provided to you today. Not to say there is not valuable information in older threads. That's why I bring it up and why you should care. There is your 2017 answer:)...See MoreSubway tile shower: niche 3/8" higher than 2nd niche. Noticeable?
Comments (9)I think this is what you are saying. Your niches are not like the original image but they are lined up in the middle of a row of tiles. But within that row, one niche is 3/8" higher than the other, like this: It would bug the heck out of me that they didn't start on a full tile in the first place, but that's usually how it ends up most of the time, like A or B. On top of that there is the3/8" height difference. I would have to compensate for this at the very least but using grout that matched the tile so I wasn't visually measuring that all the time. However, I was trained to differentiate between 0.5 of a mm for my job at one point, so 3/8" is huge to me visually. Not so with many people. Why do you know about it? Did you notice it yourself? If you did I think you have to have him change it. But if not, use grout that minimizes it....See MoreBacksplash/Shower Niche Tile Suggestions w/ White Midpoint Tile Shower
Comments (3)With those formal shapes on the floor and shower walls I wouldn't go free form on the niches. I would do 1-inch square glass tiles with some subtle color that references the floor. Or maybe see if you could cut the floor tiles to somehow work in the niches. Follow the lead of your inspiration rooms - you've got stunning floor and wall tiles- let them star and don't give them too much competition. Otherwise it starts to look too busy IMHO. Edited to add another option would be a solid color tile if you could find one matching one of the colors in the floor and a complimentary shape to the shower and floor. Free form circles just doesn't do it for me in your setting....See Morereroute shower valve or move shower head each shower/niche/which door?
Comments (14)Thanks much and beautiful showers! I am confused about the thermostatic valve. Is this something that I can buy separate and have it installed in the wall so that anytime I change out the shower handle/trim/valve it will automatically be there and still be accessible if it breaks and I need to change it? I hate to have more moving parts and things to break inside the walls. LIke this (although it looks like part of this would stick out of the wall?-another hole?: https://www.amazon.com/Rozin-Thermostatic-Mixing-Temperature-Control/dp/B01FAGWKTC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1542006430&sr=8-3&keywords=thermostatic+control+valve#customerReviews Or does do certain valves come with it like this?: https://www.amazon.com/Hansgrohe-04231000-Thermostatic-Control-Diverter/dp/B07FDFK5SM/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1542006430&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=thermostatic+control+valve&psc=1 I was wondering, also, it sets the temp but the initial issue of being cold while the water warms up since it has to run through the pipes would still be there, right? Problem is, I have chosen champagne bronze and if I need to get the thermostatic control valve built in I think that will be hard. I'm already having a hard time finding a handheld and shower head built into the same. I might have to get a separate handheld to divert water or I'm back to the initial question of do I just push the shower head over to shoot towards the wall before I turn on the H20 or go back to the idea of moving the control valve? Here's one of the options I was looking at for a showerhead before this discuss that I might need to adjust: https://www.amazon.com/58471-CZ-PK-H2Okinetic-4-Setting-Handshower-Showerhead/dp/B009MLXJN8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1542006748&sr=8-2&keywords=shower+head+combo+with+handheld+champagne+bronze...See Moremark_rachel
