what color sofa should i add to living room to warm it up
Hi Houzz Community!
I'm looking for your advice on what colour sofa I should consider to brighten up and warm up my condo's living room. I'm going for a West Coast modern look, but with a warm/inviting feel (vs. cold/industrial) and some eclectic touches (note Moroccan side table). I like the design of the current sofa, but find the briar grey too dark and cold for the look I'm going for.
The room does get a lot of light from all sides of the room but since our floors are dark wood with tones of red and other furnishings are darker wood, I think I either need a warmer couch or lighter couch and would love your sofa colour suggestions!
Also if you can suggest a rug colour to go with the new sofa that would be amazing! I can see myself adding in some sheepskin rugs on chairs for texture and am considering a persian carpet but again am afraid it might get to dark/serious.
Also i'm thinking of going for sheer belgian flax linen for the curtains just so you can visualize the vision for the rest of the room.
The desk may also be moving downstairs and replaced with the plant. Paintings etc still need to be introduced into the space - we just moved in!
I love the dining table, the fireplace and the lamp, the hardwood floors, and my dark blue stool.

Comments (7)Nice room. That hearth looks like a stumble hazard. Do forewarn your guests, especially any elderly guests. Consider painting the metal staircase black and it will go well with any color you choose and the hearth as well. A neutral wall color that would go with the brick that is not gray could be Sahara Desert Sand or something similar -- a tan without a pink or yellow hue. There's always the next thing. The transition. Think gray flannel pants, a camelhair coat, black cashmere turtleneck and ..Cary Grant : ) Some things are natural companions different rug?? When you say " I don't love gray...." it's because you have too MUCH of it, and not enough "other" I say go textured and tonal because it is naturally richer than jamming a bold color into the room. PRO6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoI would do this emerald green velvet Oxford sofa, with a warmer wood for the legs and brass castors. (which are optional) This photo does not do the fabric justice! It's warm, yet still bold. The pillow cases you have shown would still work great. :)
The rug is the Oslo. It is hand made and 100% wool.

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoFirst of all, love the wall color and think it goes great with your floors. It's soothing, beautiful, and sophisticated. Do you mind sharing the color?
Second, I can easily see a cream and white and natural linen and flax color scheme with your floors and walls. Dark blue like your stool will go perfectly with those colors. Not sure if you have kids and don't want to go that light, but something like this for your couch:

6 years agoIf you love the blue, then a sapphire sofa in velvet would not be amiss.....add a pair of lounge chairs in a bright turquoise, hot pink, bright orange, neon yellow. I think a rug in grey and white would add brightness and block some of the dark flooring. Large modern are with your room colors would be great....it if often suggested on Houzz that large art can be hung and then all the colors taken from the art work an be used to design the room.
A lot of white works nicely with silver and cream.
