picking out paint colors

OMG - what an ordeal. Sadly I am not very good at this as I'm sure many of you are. No wonder I rarely change my usually beige paint. I have to get rid of the gold at the place we moved into in 2015 so I'm deep into figuring out what to replace it with. I had the Sherwin Williams in home paint person come out and advise but I don't think she was all that good, plus it was a dreary day and hard to get a feel for the colors. The only thing she advised that I liked was the beige for the living areas - needed something that wasn't gold but would go with the kitchen counters, tile backsplash and oak woodwork. So I put samples of the Antler Velvet all over and I like that.

However the blue for the powder room and office is another story. Shortly after she left I realized green would probably be better in my office since there's no blue in the valance I'm keeping and blue just seems too bedroomy/bathroomy. So I picked out what looked like a muted gray/green and tried that. OMG - all these colors looked like aqua to me. I know I have issues committing to a color and maybe the only color I like is beige!

So I took the aqua green sample back and asked to have it turned into something more sagey-green. The sagey greens looked kind of dull so I got something a little more green. Well, I think that might be okay for the office. It looked like such a bright green in the sun but now that the sun's not shining directly on it, it looks pretty good. I may still try a sample of one of the dull sage greens.

DH is not so color risk averse as me and has a good eye for it so I told him to decide on the bathroom blue. The colors are relatively light on the scale but when I put them on the wall in this small windowless bathroom they look so dark. Oh well, I'm going with the blue he picked out. As he says, repaint it if you don't like it.

I was going to do some color in my small windowless laundry room but just sticking with the lightest shade of the Antler Velvet palette. I have a couple recessed architectural details the color consultant suggested painting a shade darker than Antler. DH thinks that's a good idea. Is it?

Right now I'm thinking this is the last time I'm going to have this place painted in my lifetime......
