New Office: Need Help with Decor and Organization

Recently started a new job as a disaster training and exercise specialist, and after trying to figure it out for several months now, I'm stuck and could use some help with organization and making the office feel more like a home office. Is this the right place to post?

Here are some photos:

I'm standing with my back to the whiteboard wall...

So,I feel like if I could get the organization part figured out, it would help with the decor part, am I right? I feel like the arrangement of my office would work really well for a left handed person, but I am right handed. As you enter the door, from left to right, there is a white board the entire length of the first wall, a window and a vertical beam on the second wall, third wall is open, and 4th wall has TV and the doorway. The window faces west/northwest I think, so it is a bit cavelike. The overhead fluorescent lighting gives me migraines, so some lamps are in the plan. The furniture comes with the office and has to stay. Rearranging options seem to be rather limited due to permanent fixtures and help to move things, but I'm open to that if I can make it work. I do most of my work on the computer, and it's not a comfortable set up. A laptop functions as the brain and sits on a bulky docking station that is in the way. Where I sit, I can see the reflection of the person working at their computer two doors down. I also have lots of files and pretty large ones, and lots of binders. I haven't been able to come up with a real system yet since I had to jump into a very large project right away. I also have a backpack with gear to store and portable radio/charging base. My bookshelves are full of binders and training materials since these pix were taken. I'm really visual/hands on, so I wish I had a huge bulletin board wall where I could post all my graphs and charts and things, but not likely to happen so hoping to figure out an alternative (might have to settle for a shortcut on my desktop).

I also need to store things that I would need (like bedding, boots, clothes, food, toiletries) if we were activated and had to stay overnight at the office indefinitely. My office would be my bedroom. We have showers and lockers upstairs that could hold some things.

Available storage: 4 shelf bookcase, 2 overhead shelves, 2 lateral file drawers, 2 shallow (approx. 6 in) desk drawers, 1 deeper desk drawer.

My favorite styles are subtle versions of coastal, cottage, garden, and some shabby chic that my favorite colors lend themselves to (ranging from apple green to periwinkle blue and all the colors in

between those). But I'm open to other colors consistent with those styles if it serves the space better (not into deep, dark, earthy tones, for example).

Of course, it still needs to be somewhat professional and either work with or distract from the black office furniture. I've been to every store imaginable and scoured the internet, but with no success so far in finding anything inspiring.

I'd appreciate suggestions!

Thanks,

Elizabeth
