How Many and Where to Put Shower Shelves

Finally made decision to use Daltile Shower Shelves. Have choice of 7 and 9" sizes. I'm thinking a 9" lower shelf with a 7" shelf over it in back corner. And possibly another 7" shelf on front corner by shower head wall. Too many shelves? What is normal placement with a horizontal trim in shower? Not using niches.

I say put them so they're NOT directly visible from the main bathroom.

I am using niches, and these are my inspiration pictures -- the idea being that storage is only visible from INSIDE the shower. After all, shampoo bottles and half-used soap aren't 'specially attractive. Though you're using shelves, you should be able to use the same concept.

They are usually placed in the corner near the shower head. You can see plenty of examples by searching on shower corner shelves on Houzz.

You might consider a basket if you use soap or a puff so that they can air dry. You need a good brand like Kohler or Ginger. Ginger's Hotelier corner baskets come in 6" and 9" and are not too expensive compared to some of their other baskets. They're brass and they won't rust. Ginger products are often recommended here.

If your plants are in clay pots, chances are they will not tip over. But in plastic yes. So what I did was surround each pot with bricks. or cement blocks and they never fell. You could even bury them in holes in the groung, pot and all if you are not concerned about some kind of pest getting into the dirt of your pots. Just a couple of ideas for you..:-) The before you have to bring them in in the fall, treat them at least 3-4 times with a good insecticide as soon as it starts to cool down on a weekly basis. Kneem oil is great. You can even water your plants with this stuff too to kill in soil insects. You might be lucky and bring no insects indoors by the time fall hits..-) Mike

Funny how the salesman for my contracting place and the foreman who's actually doing (well, supervising) the work disagree on things. The salesman didn't want to do a niche. The foreman is fine with it. He said they like to build their own niche rather than use one of the prefabs - that the tile work comes out better. I don't know if I believe this (based on comments here from bill & mongo), and of course, his will be more expensive than the prefab, but I'm so happy they're willing to do it at all, I'm doing a happy dance! He said once they demo the bathroom, we can determine what size niche will fit and exactly where to place it. :-)

I am having a shower shelf by the shower head to hold liquid soap, shampoo and conditioner.

I am having a larger niche built towards the bench which hold items that I don't use directly under the shower head.
