My new Bare root roses -one is The Alnwick Rose
Comments (15)I used to have The Alnwick Rose. I've attempted growing this rose twice and in conclusion, there are three things that I don't like about it: 1) Most of the time, the scent is not always present. A huge let down. 2) the flower form is small and the petals scatter quickly. 3) I don't like the colour - it fades quickly to a glistering white/ pale pink colour. The only good thing about this rose is that it repeats quite fast....See MoreFirst bare root rose
Comments (13)I checked and 3 of the canes are green with white inside. The bad parts near the bottom I showed my neighbor who grows a lot of roses and he said he thinks they had wrapped it with wire down low or something cut into the canes where the damaged areas are. I trimmed some of the roots and most of the big ones looked alive so I planted it. I could not find any of the lavender roses around here anywhere and Gurneys was the only place I saw it but I won't order from them again. They totally messed up my order. I ordered 3 roses, the Blue Girl and a buy one get one free deal of their choice which I figures would be ok since they only offered a few for sale and I liked all of them. Well somehow they sent the blue girl and changed my order to dwarf daylilly and orange butterfly bush instead of roses but didn't ship them. I paid for the 3 roses and shipping. I emailed them and never heard back so I called them and they said my husband canceled my order for the plants that weren't shipped. I know that is crazy since he has nothing to do with my flowers. I told them it was wrong and the order was wrong and had to go look up the order number since they said they didn't have a buy one get one fee deal on the hybrid teas and I had to show them on the website so they said they would fix it. Then I got an email saying they charged my credit card again. I have to go to the bank Monday and see if they refunded the first mess up. I will not order from them again. Comments (11)I knew there was a reason I love this forum! I am reminded of it often when reading these posts from all of you. What sweet gardening friends you are! Thank-you for your anniv. wishes. I agree it was a most perfect gift on our special day. I can relate SO well to those of you that are growing roses for the first time. I was in EXACTLY those shoes last year. I bought four bare-root David Austins from Wayside and only ONE of them took! sniff! You wouldn't believe what my dh and I went through to create the bed for them if I told you so suffice it to say that I had four roses, three of them dead and he declared we MUST have something to fill those empty holes so we went to the local garden center and splurged on two KO blush bushes. Already established and blooming. That was one of the best purchases ever in my opinion. They are double the size and covered with buds this year. I got another one for Mom's day! hehe The rose in question in the picture is a New Dawn climber. I bought two of those last year in POTS. They were tiny but they were already alive and growing. They have gone bonkers this year and are already nearly up to the roof of my patio. They are also covered with buds. I am SO impatient to see them all in full bloom!! Of all the plants in my garden, nothing ever thrills me as much as my roses when they are blooming....See MoreFirst Rose Bloom of the Year!
Comments (4)I've still got about a month to go. About half the roses have buds on them, but they are small. I should have pruned a little earlier than what I did, but oh well. They all seem to be doing really well so far though. Should be a much better spring than the rainy one last spring....See MoreDarren Harwood
