What is this plant with these fuzzy, teardrop-shaped leaves about ~1.5" long?

It looks a lot like an emerging ruellia to me (possibly ruellia humilis).

Looks like Frostweed. It's a very prolific self seeder in my garden. I'm out of room for anymore. They grow fast and bloom the first year. Great for pollinators. Verbesina virginica most likely. You have more Verbesina species down there that I'm not familiar with. There are 2 other white flowered Verbesina in Texas, V. microptera and V. walteri. All 3 white flowered species have very different flowers.

If this is a Cockspur Hawthorn it should have some wicked thorns. Did you notice any?🤔 I see a branch that had either thorns or twigs broken off of it.

Is that dry stem in the first photo related to the plant in question? If so, I’d wager not a milkweed. There is something near the top that *might* be a ruellia seed pod.

Yea, I'm guessing that dead stem belongs to the plant as a winter leftover... And I have seen some Ruellias "around" here, so Ruellia humilis (Prairie Petunia) is probably a good guess, thanks!!!
