Anyone want to help me choose a backsplash?
Comments (56)I'm still occasionally thinking about backsplash tile as I get some free time. "Reading other people's suggestions is like a brainstorming session that gets me thinking in new directions. I'm not married to one idea! I also never tire of looking at Houzz photos for ideas." - exactly! Also, I've run across two of those last three kitchen you posted:) (maybe too much time on houzz?...nah) I picked up more samples. I really like the white tile below, and want to share. Unfortunately, I don't think the white goes with the white on my upper cabinets. I doubt the tumbled stone tile will be popular here, but I really like the colors. If I went with stone, I would probably go all the way up and around the window as well. Any opinions on this? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Merola-Tile-Okaido-Nordico-Decor-19-3-4-in-x-19-3-4-in-Ceramic-Floor-and-Wall-Tile-16-5-sq-ft-case-FCG20OND/206402828 I like the center designs (they vary), but don't care for the larger pattern. Maybe I could cut up each sheet and make a new pattern? It seems to be unobtanium anyway; out of stock online and not sold in stores. cp - you have really converted me to the idea of patterned tile, if I can find the right one. Comments (15)Nice house. Great location. Existing colors suit the house. Would not paint it white. IF and when it actually needs painting, you might consider two shades of green to have the house meld well with its surroundings. If you're planting veggies, you might want to cut the trees from within your front planting area so its roots do not compete for nutrients. To keep the veggie planting area interesting between veggie growing seasons, you might consider planting some items -- such as strawberries and/or spices -- in pyramids: https://www.google.com/search?q=strawberry+pyramids&client=firefox-b-1-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwizlpfpmunoAhVJdt8KHUUNA7IQ_AUoAXoECA0QAw&biw=1366&bih=654 Wouldn't want frosted windows unless truly needed for privacy and that isn't the case for the high garage windows. If not wanting someone knocking at the door being able to see in is the reason for considering frosted windows on the door, consider tinted film placed on the glass before investing in frosted glass. For the large window by the door -- for all windows -- invest in mini blinds you can hang within the window frame and, as needed, the slats can be tilted so anyone looking in sees ceiling and those inside can still see out....See MoreExterior Paint Color Dilemma
Comments (37)You have gotten a lot of ideas from your post! I do not have a cape, nor do I live in the South. Here is what I would do. I LOVE the idea of the peach/pinkyorange concept for the front door. It will set your home just a bit apart from the crowd. I would do the body of the house in a soft pale ivory, not bright white. It will work well with the front door, and speak to the roof color, while not accenting the roof. The shutters would look good in a Taupe Grey, a deep tone to work with the black windows, but not bold black. Possibly SW's Westchester Gray. I also love the idea of the large exterior lights at the front door. They bring attention to where the door is. I would paint the storm door the same color as the front door, to bring continuity. Post pics when you complete this!...See MoreCOCo
