Comments (37)White chocolate is a scam - it is what is left after the real chocolate has been removed. This statement has as much to do with my original post as many of the other comments posted had. To put things in perspective, only 6 of the 21 people who posted comments on this thread actually responded to my request for suggestions and ideas for using recycled items for edging (my main need) and ornaments. To them, a hearty thank you. Another 6 people went off in other directions. Yes, anyone can post anything they want. But, I didnt ask whether people thought I should put in edging, nor did I ask for design advice at all. I am fortunate to have an interior designer and a landscape designer as friends. For a few cocktail hours and dinners, they have helped me develop my design. If only I could figure out a menu good enough to get them to help with some digging! 5 individuals (2 crossovers from the "other direction" category) posted lectures. As more than one posting said, it is my garden. I do not feel the need to justify anything I do in it. But, to give you a little more feeling for what I am doing I will describe my front lawn. My house is a big old late-1960s brick ranch. There is a large expanse of brick, the living room juts out with floor-to-ceiling windows, then the front porch, and finally garage doors. The lawn is the largest in my subdivision (my house was the top-of-the-line display home.) A street runs right up to my driveway - if you dont turn right or left, youll be getting the cats excited about someone coming to visit. I detest boring grass lawns. So, I have put in flower beds with flowering bushes, daylilies, and cannas for summer. Right now, the first of my daffodils are blooming, and the tulips, irises, and mid & late season daffodils are coming up. As mentioned in my original note, I am doing my best to get rid of the dreadful zoysia and replace it with various types of groundcovers. So, I am compelled to edge the borders of my lawn to keep the neighbors zoysia out and keep my groundcovers in. Im not looking for decorative edging - utilitarian without being ugly is fine. I asked for ideas about ornaments because I find ideas breed ideas, and Im also working on the backyard, which can be a little funkier. I agree there is always room for discussion and debate - perhaps folks might want to start their own strings for topics on which they want input or to present their ideas. Comments (25)I'll be 49 in 5 months, and now I tell myself, "Geez, I'm on the cusp of the half-century mark...what can I (or "they") expect? If I were a piece of furniture, I'd be an heirloom!" So, we relax our standards! We no longer compare ourselves to young starlets, and try not to make comparisons to younger versions of ourselves. At the same time, obviously, we also don't give up! I absolutely pay attention to women in their 40's, 50's, 60's and beyond, and love to see how wonderful women of all ages can look. I'm impressed when I see women making an effort. It's delightful. I do think clothes are more important to pulling ourselves together as we age. Being well-scrubbed and well-rested may have been all we needed at 25, but a little more effort is called for now. Hence, my query to Bumblebeez! I saw a woman in her 70's the other day who looked so polished, so poised, so together, that I just thought, "Gee, I want to look like that when I grow up!" She wasn't trying to look like a teenager. She fully owned her "maturity." I love that. Comments (15)He's 36. So not too old for the positions he's looking for - if anything he's too young. He was at Disney two years, and in September he will have been at this current position for a year. He knows that it seems flighty - it is really - but at the time he took the job, he took it because it was a job and that was something he didn't have. We didn't plan on it being long-term unless they came through with pay, which they haven't. Prior to Disney, he was at his previous employer 6 years and prior to that place, 8 years. So I think that speaks volumes. He is being open about the situation with Disney and his former boss. He knows better than not to be. Overall the bad fit situation explains it. I mean, the things she would get upset about are almost amusing - the (company-provided) blackberry chirping, him going to lunch with a vendor to close a deal rather than have the meeting in the conference room, STUPID things like that, and nothing he did offically "wrong" moreso than he just got on her nerves. And she also reprimanded him for taking time off for my fibroid surgery in March, and THEN he asked for 1 additional day to be at my side during my breast surgery in July. (He did have both the vacation time and the sick time, fwiw, and plenty of it). As IF I planned these two surgeries as a way to get him to take time off work? Then she didn't want him to take sick time to be at my side, saying he couldn't - but in CA, you can take up to half you sick days for a family member. So he went over her head to Disney about it (he was right, she was wrong) and she was peeved about that. And then the whole vague dissention of staff thing. She said she felt they were losing respect for him. No wonder when she kept going to them to ask them what they thought of him, no wonder when she'd override the tasks he'd give them - no wonder they felt dissent. He had a month left of his probation when he left - he basically went to her and said it's over now, this isn't going to work, after she tried to give him a "VP of Project Management" position for the remainder of his probation. The writing was on the wall. He felt it was a hostile work environment and just couldn't stand it another day. He knew then that he would be terminated no matter what he did, and chose to take the money and walk out the door. They gave him a nice severance in exchange for his silence and agreement not to sue. He questions every day whether or not he should have turned down the offer and sued. Anyway, I'm rambling... So he is being totally open about all that. Of course they want to know. Some of them even know this woman and know what she's like. (Like was said above, it's a small industry) They also want to know why he wants to leave his current position, and he's saying A) the pay B) the commute C) he wants to get back into direct IT. In the past couple of weeks he was interviewing for 3 positions. Comments (31)NCrealestateguy has a clue. Pricing is a concern. Get on it asap. I would suggest going through the listing pictures and eliminating some of them. This action is free. Nothing says you have to use all 30 spaces allotted in a listing. It's not a large house and there just isn't enough going on to justify 30 pictures. 15 Good pictures is better than 30 so-so pictures. They become repetitive or feature areas that don't need highlighting. Get rid of a few of the outdoor pictures that have been a subject of discussion. Now, that we are on the subject of price, let me explain some of the psychology. Price searches run in groups. Under $500,000 they run in $50,000 dollar increments. Over $500,000 they tend to run in $100,00 increments. Your basic searcher will look at houses under $150,000, under $200,000, under $250,000, so on and so forth. Then, they will search in $10,000 increments within that $50,000 range. If you can get to $199,000 you will bring in a whole new set of buyers. If you sit in the $209,000 to $200,000 range, you are in the bottom of the range and are being compared to much nicer properties. You may miss a whole group potential purchasers. It's better to be at the top of the range. If you can take it off the market for a few days to get a new MLS number and new listing designation, it would be helpful.
