Furniture Design Dilemma living room

Help!: long living room with long bay window

My living room is long and has multiple openings to contend with. It has a very nice bay window - where I would like to install a window seat - but it's along the long side of the room. The other long wall has an opening to the kitchen. One of the short sides of the living room has a fireplace, while the other side is open to the foyer.

The sofa in the pictures will not stay, and I'm open to using any type of furniture (i.e. sofa, love seat(s), armchairs). Going for a coastal look, but not too informal. Nothing has to stay, except for flooring.

We thought of making built-ins around the fireplace and putting the tv there, but then a love seat or sofa would be placed awkwardly in front of the opening to the kitchen.

I would like to have a seating area from where we can also watch television. Could really use some help on this! Any input will be greatly appreciated!!

Position your largest piece of furniture first. The bay area is perfect for a sofa and long bench style coffee table.

Wall behind kitchen cabinets is where a lovely built in could go to hold the t v (and wires).

Two swivel chairs, free standing, facing the fireplace, as you come into the room from the hall.

Two smaller, but comfy, accent chairs on either side of fireplace.

There will be end tables and lamps for the sofa, two floor lamps for accent chairs, and something between the swivel chairs to serve as a table.

When you design your bookcase, add lighting.

You appear to have baseboard heat/ac beneath those windows. That's something that would need to be addressed if you build in a window seat and/or taken into account if you place your sofa in that window bay.

One drawback to having a sofa floating in the middle of the room (as shown in your pic) is that there are no end tables with lamps (hidden cord issues) for either end of your sofa ...

unless you're setting one end table between the sofa and the wall that separates the living room and kitchen. Your walk-thru path would then be between the sofa and the large window/window/seat.

If you prefer the back of your sofa against the wall (with end tables on each end), another option might be to move the doorway between the living room and dining room closer to the fireplace and face your sofa toward and centered with the large window with a couple of swivel rockers and table between them in that window bay.

Yes, that was what I meant, although cliff and joann's idea is equally good, assuming the couch will fit into the bay window. I think the largest piece of furniture always looks best when it's facing the TV, so either way would work. However, having the door that close to the couch may not be a good look. I would get another chair or love seat to complete the seating area and a smaller coffee table with a glass top and metal legs to maximize the spaciousness of the room. Of course you'll also need smaller tables with lamps by some of the seating to complete the look. Do you have wall to wall carpeting? If not, then a beautiful area rug would give a lot of color and interest to this room.

I think your room is perfectly suited to such a layout. Even a small bar cart or wine chest on that end of the room would help define the space. It's a look I would have done in my own living room had I been able to bear the thought of giving up my very comfortable sofa where I sit in front of my windows every day!

Here is how I would arrange it. Not having dimension, this is obviously not to scale, but gives you general idea. I'd use round features when possible to eliminate the look of the angled wall. Example: here I used a round rug and chairs. I don't know how much space is in the bay window area or if you need to place a dining table there. But, if so, this is one option of how to fit a dining table in smaller space: scoot it up to the back of the sofa. I also do not have information on what furniture you have, but I would not use 2 sofas as the current owner is showing. I'd use one sofa and a couple of chairs, as show below. Hope that helps.
