Generally I have read that the sofa should be placed on the longest wall so as to have room for end tables and lamps w/o it looking cramped....as to the windows treat them in the same manner. Centering might be your only option depending on the length of the wall.....and a 68 inch sofa might be too small to be comfortable. Try to stick with a 7 ft sofa by marking out the two sizes on the wall using blue painters tape....do the small one first with end tables and then the larger one and see which one feels better....look for sofa with slender arms for more seating area between the arms. If you have another casual family room/den, then make this a formal sitting area for conversation and maybe coffee with guests. I think a pair of settees similar to this one on each wall would be a nice approach. A floor lamp in the corner between them and pretty art above each one would make the corner a real show stopper. You could add a small coffee table for drinks. I wouldn't want any of the windows covered by a sofa, but you could add a small accent chair and table in the front window area for a nice reading spot. Toss a nice flokati under it to warm up the floor in that end of the room, and put your major rug at the settee end.

85" is definitely too big. 68" is a better choice.

Don't forget to choose the rug and the sofa together. You don't want the rug all the way to the walls so (based on your dims) no bigger than 6ft wide.

since you're asking if it would be too small, fyi a 68" sofa is not a full size sofa, but rather a mid-sofa or apartment size sofa. keep in mind that you have to deduct the arm size to figure out your seating area, and if your sofa has a large arm, you might only have the seating area of a loveseat.

in general, our full size sofas have at least 68" of seating area between the arms, and once you add the arm size you have the full length.
