Whats your best guess on this color

Comments (6)Hello, My name is Michael and I own a company called American Painting and Deck Care. Located in Cumming Georgia. If you have a Porter Paints in your area or a PPG Paints store there are two products I would use. One is an oil called "Glyptex" eggshell fininsh or waterbased "Advantage 900" available in all sheens. I use these products all the time, as well as my own home. If you have any painting related questions or anyone needs a Free Estimate please call 678-566-3305 and ask for Michael Here is a link that might be useful: american painting and deck care's website...See MoreBest layout for 8'9" vanity
Comments (6)24" is a standard sink base and 15" is perfect for the side drawers. You could put a 15" trash cabinet on one end instead of the drawers. I don't think it'd affect the symmetry as the vanity is so long. I'd put a drawer over it as the top drawers are the most used in a vanity. I would put it near the toilet/shower room. If symmetry is an issue for you, you might do the same on the bedroom end but use the under cabinet as a regular cabinet. The sconces look a little high--I've read they should be at eye level. They should be 30 - 40" apart. I don't like how the single center sconce isn't the same distance from the mirror as the side sconces. I would do two in the center or find a style that has both single sconces and double sconces that are wired as one to fill that center wall space. A small sink base on a long vanity isn't my preference unless it's for a contemporary bath. If you increased the sink bases to 28" and decreased the center drawers to 18", you'd still have plenty of storage. You could make your mirrors 30" wide and that would help fill the space between mirrors, allowing for a single sconce. You could then use double doors on the sink base. That gives the sink base more importance visually as the sink/faucet/mirror is the focal point of any vanity. Don't skimp on the sink size to try to get more counter as that throws off the proportions of the counter space. I assume this vanity will be custom and your cabinet maker will know how to balance everything. I designed a 94" peninsula with cabinets and shelves and my cabinet maker made the proportions right. It was hard for me to visualize on paper and on computer so I trusted his knowledge and experience. I've been through a few renditions of vanities with him too where he talked about the sizing of sink base to drawers....See MoreWhat would be the best wood for a stained vanity?
Comments (13)It's a legitimate question, bac. Cherry is the best choice as it takes dark stain very well and is a hardwood. The sapwood shouldn't be an issue because of the dark stain, but he should show you samples. You can also request all heartwood but it will add to the expense. Alder also takes dark stain well and is just as beautiful to my eye as stained cherry, but it is a softer wood. That may not be an issue in a bathroom as it could be in a kitchen. I wouldn't hesitate to use it but I'd protect it if I had a plumber or electrician in with their heavy tools. You can look at the Janka scale to compare wood hardness. Maple is a very hard wood so the stain doesn't penetrate as well and it can be blotchy with a dark stain. It doesn't have the richness of cherry imo. I don't think birch is usually stained dark. It's less commonly used than the other three woods. Here is my Kraftmaid cherry vanity in the caffee stain, one of their darkest. I would bet there's sapwood in it. The red comes through a little more in photos than it does in person....See MoreRelated Professionals
