Range Hood: Height between the stove top and hood bottom
Comments (7)I'm in the same boat, I'm buying a Wolf 30" DF range, and I only have 30" between the stove top and the cabinet above. I'm thinking of going with the Kobe Ch-122 as it has a depth of 22" so it will capture the majority of the front burners and the length of the unit is 5 7/8". Leaving almost 25" of space between the stove and the hood. I'm 5"10 and I went to a store that had this setup and I was relaly suprised because it was very workable for us, didn't bother me at all. I'm still debating on getting the even larger CH-27 model, which has a length of 7", but that would leave me 23" of space between..I dont think it should make too much fo a difference. I'm leaning towards the Ch-27 because it uses baffles which I have heard is much better than the CD-122 which uses the oil catchers....See MoreRange hood in front of window: who to call for consultation
Comments (6)Not a pro but I just finished a remodel and the HVAC company dealt with my hood. It wasn't a simple connection because I was moving my cooktop slightly so the vent had to be moved. It also could not go up because I have concrete soffits and the vent in my building (a high rise) is in the wall. I am not sure how a KD would help unless you want to remodel your kitchen and move the range. Obviously a stove in front of a window is not ideal and there have been threads on this placement - you could probably find them by doing a search. Have you thought about a down draft type of vent because it would seem that any kind of hood in front of a window would look odd - but I am not a pro or a kitchen designer. A down draft isn't the ideal type of venting system but I would think aesthetically it would look better than a hood bisecting a window....See MoreDowndraft vent in island or Vent hood in front of window?
Comments (10)I had a gas stovetop with a downdraft on as island, and I thought it was great. My island was large enough to still have a wide area behind the stove for countertop use. I liked that the vent was unnoticeable most of the time with a clear view outdoors. I cooked dinner almost daily, and it worked perfectly fine for the infrequent times I needed the vent. I also had a large window and French doors that were often open nearby. I think a a lot has to do with your particular space, and what types of things you cook. Mine was a downdraft for 4 large burners plus a center griddle....See MoreWhat hood to install in front of window?
Comments (1)A search here tagged window + hood might pull up several threads on this subject. As I recall, there was one deemed successful by the owner who pulled the cooktop back some from the window (deep counter) and used a largish hood a bit high over the cooktop. And yes, in this circumstance a deep front-to-back island hood is desirable. The window may have to be un-openable, and nominally 'easy' to clean. Distances to combustibles must be met....See MoreUser
