Want to replace baseboards, window & door casings
Comments (8)Honestly, if that were my house, I would leave it as is. It may look more disconnected IRL, but it looks fine to me. What I would focus on is replacing the caulking where needed, adding caulk where needed, fixing any dings or dints and do a really nice paint job. Your nice wainscotting adds a lot of interest in lieu of nice big hefty trim. I would hesitate to tear out and redo it to accomodate taller base. You really don't have room for wider door and window trim in some areas. Once the caulk and paint have cured, I would do a nice strait edge with tape and touch up the wall paint - it appears that the trim paint is running up on the walls....See MoreBaseboards and Casings with Shaker Style Interior doors
Comments (3)We are doing the same thing, installing 3 panel solid shaker doors, but have 3.5 inch trim around a lot of our existing windows that has more detail. Would it be best to match that trim for consistency on the doors or can you mix trims and go more flat and simple on doors? We plan on installing new 5.25 high baseboard that is plain except for one detail at the top....See MoreHelp with Baseboards and Door Casings
Comments (8)Red, I was born and raised in SF, and SF_Treat used to be part of the rice-a-roni ad. I use it for my anonymous web IDs. Yes, how it will look is similar to the picture you posted. Well, currently there is a lot of finger pointing going on about HOW it happened, but my husband and I are focused on just finding a solution and moving on so that we can move back into the house. We "think" what happened is they were told the floor would add 3/4" but then the didn't compensate for that. The plans CLEARLY call for only 4". We think "fixing" it would look worse. I think that higher baseboard will be fine. The ceilings are low, but in the main areas of the house, there are tons of light wells that make everything looking taller. Scone, the baseboard and reveal are flush to the drywall, so the casing will sit proud. That is how the plans are drawn. I am probably not explaining it well, but it makes sense. I swear we gutted and rebuilt this entire 3000 sq ft home and THIS is the biggest issue we have had....See MorePainting out baseboards, leaving window and door casings white?
Comments (7)A picture of the whole room is what I would need to see. Are you planning drapes or what kind of window covering? I don’t think it would look right to paint the trim like the walls in fact I think the baseboards and the trim could be wider....See Moreforhome0122
