Comments (6)What is the purpose of the wall unit in the hallway that leads to the bedroom door? I got rid of that, so if it's necessary, you can simply ignore my plan. There are a few things I did: 1) As stated, I got rid of the wall unit in the hallway outside the bedroom door. It does a few things, one of them is increasing your closet space which was one of your complaints. Though I didn;t move it in my rendition, whatever that shelving thing is in the closet, I'd put it on the right closet wall, opposite the "tie rack". 2) I moved the actual bedroom door out to the front of that hallway. Moving the door further away from the bed will help isolate kitchen sounds from transmitting to the sleeping area. 3) I moved the closet entry from the bathroom into that same hallway that is now inside the bedroom. It brings your closet closer to the laundry and increases the usable space in the bathroom. 4) In the bedroom, I lengthened your wall unit that is opposite the bed. I lengthened it on both ends. This made it symmetrical with the bed, and to a slight extent the added storage here may make up for the loss of the wall unit I deleted in the former hallway. 5) I got rid of the double doors into the bathroom. 6) In the bathroom, I moved things around. It's not perfect, but this five minute revamp provides you with a: - larger shower - pony wall to partially hide the toilet - toilet next to a vanity - laundry near the bathroom entry door - the option of a slightly longer vanity It may not be what you're looking for, but it's another perspective. Comments (6)If I were you'd I'd pose this question to Bevangel--often found in the building forum (you can locate a post by her, click her name, then email her through GW to ask her to post on this). She is very knowledgable about accessible homes/baths, etc. From another post she commented on: "Any room or closet that you want to make wheelchair accessible needs to have a wide enough door (32" minimum) for a wheelchair to get thru. Accessible bathrooms need to have a 5' diameter circle of clear floor space so that a wheel-chair can get turned around in them." So, I worry, right off the bat, that your bathroom isn't wide enough. Plus, having a glass shower front means you won't be able to put in a grab bar on that wall for use for a weaker person to get on/off the toilet.... I think that wall needs to be solid, at least from the half-way point down. If you cannot, under any circumstances move the shower's location, then I would make the closet narrower--at 4' wide only, and give the rest to the bathroom. If you can afford to cut the slab for a shower drain only (this won't be that expensive, in the grand scheme of things...), I'd try moving the shower to across from the sink/toilet and all the way "down" to the wall. Then, have your closet run across the right wall. If you draw that out, you might find you can get a wider area in the center of the bathroom for accessibility. Or, since it is a fairly square space (10x11) you might find that extra expense isn't worth it. Finally, I'd consider making the whole 10x11 space bathroom/linen closet, and building a closet on the door side of the bedroom (just a reach in). Bathroom space would look like a long bath, with lots of space in the "front"/bottom of it. And, along the bottom wall could be a reach in closet or cabinetry set up. The entry into the room cannot move, but the french door that leads out to the backyard can be relocated. We would like to have a double vanity, walk-in shower, walk-in closet, and if possible a soaking tub. 6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoMy first thought would be to extend the closet on the left to match the one on the right, so the left closet has a total depth of 5.5 feet. I'd also move the door on the left closet to face the one on the right. Then you have two walk-in closets, facing each other, which creates a nice symmetrical walkway from your master bedroom to your bathroom. Would that give you enough closet space?
You might also benefit from re-designing your closet space with new shelves, built-in drawers, etc. That could substantially increase your storage space without actually increasing the footprint of your closets.
By the way, you may want to re-check your measurements carefully. Are you sure your shower is only 24 inches deep? Most showers are at least 30".

You have great space to work with and it can be dynamic without going out on a limb. I think your dimensions for your proposed plan might be off, and definitely not luxurious enough.
What you drew in scale is not enough space to function properly and you can do so much more. Let's face it, we spend our lives in the bathroom, so it might as well be well designed and pretty. See below for another approach.
You hadn't indicated what style you like, so here are a few inspiration pics. Let me know what you think. By putting the shower in the corner it can be large - 60 x 60 - and a bench can run along the back wall.
The vanity can be the full width from the shower to the left wall. Don't worry about the position of the window, if you like the layout, I can send over some pics of mirrors mounted in front of a window.
The freestanding tub can have a wonderful wall design behind depending on you style. The wall that is against the closet wall can have a 10" deep ceiling to floor linen cabinet.
