Windows Design Dilemma Kitchens

What should I do for window treatments?

We have been renovating our 100 year old farm house. We installed large, tall windows to take advantage of the beautiful landscape. Because of the shape of the bump out, I am not sure how to dress the side windows. I don't want to put anything on the big picture window, but feel the side windows could use a softening touch. Should I use roman shades, full length curtain panels or something else? I don't want to obstruct the view.

I like it curtainless. I think you can add some texture and colour with a pretty rug.

But if you feel you must have curtains you can get rods that hinge around the corner and hang simple panels to each side of each window.

I would do a pair of fixed panels on each windows. I too would wrap the rod around the room if you can. It can be tricky with the angled walls. If you don’t want to wrap the rod then I would do a pair of fixed panels on the center window and a single panel on the side windows. Sides closest to the room.

Nthing a nice large piece of art for over the sectional, at least 40"x40". I'd get a giclee. Then, bookend it with sconces. If for decor only, I like the ones that look like candleholders with mirrors on the back. You can get plug-in or hardwired electrical ones. Or, get ones with shades so you have some light to read by. Alternatively you could do a gallery wall of smaller pieces over the sectional, and/or add a sofa table in front of your window to hold lamps and drinks. I'd keep the blinds you have if they work for you privacy-wise, then put stationary drapes at either end. Add throw pillows. Drapes and pillows should work with the art you choose. I'd do a round wooden or glass coffee table, not square since the area looks tight and you could bang your shins, and not an upholstered ottoman/table since the sectional is a LOT of upholstery already. Although if you do want it upholstered, go with a colorful and bold print. Finally.. you may want to grab a rug to layer over the beige carpet in this area. Choose this first, or second after the art, since it will dictate your colors like the art will. If the rug has an interesting print I would definitely go with glass or lucite for the coffee table to show it off.

Usally the top is left open. But if light is a issue, you can have a cellular shade made to fit into the opening. Cellular shades work out well on this type of window. You can get either one to cover both windows for a clean look, and better light control. Or 2 so you can have one up and one down if you want.

Well, if you are changing the windows, any decent trim mechanic can cap the surrounding trim in a color that is to your liking. You just need to figure out if you are changing the full palette and what colors you want to go with.

I think operable cellular shades for a very clean look with remote control; they can be done in so many different colors textures and patterns or a simple operable woven wood Roman shade or fabric Roman shade for privacy when needed.
