Dining Room Chandeliers - Portable?

Portable is not the word I'm looking for, but the best I could think of.

I love a chandelier, but hate how it pins a table to the space. Our dining room is a multi-functional space - the table needs to move around to accommodate whatever layout we need. We have a chandelier now and it's lovely - but it pins our table in place... and if we move the table, the chandelier is low enough that you'd hit your head walking past it.

What is the best way to hang a chandelier in this room and still allow ourselves freedom of table layout?

Someone told me there might be a way to install a chandelier on a long chain, and have hooks from the ceiling so you can move your chandelier around to pre-fixed locations. Could anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks! Very helpful. My husband believes this style of light is unsuitable for moving around frequently (as frequently as every time we throw a party, let's say)... and that it's only suitable for when you do a major redecoration of the room. Is that true?

I will still consult a lighting professional when we start the remodel, now that I have the right term for it (thanks again)... but am happy to hear from anyone that can weigh in on this point. Thanks in advance.

Good morning Jaime! Based off the 71" table, anything stretching ~50 inches centered to it would look great. Also based off the ceiling height, anything that comes down ~8 ft. would fit the space well. In regards to the chandelier, pendants of any size really depending how many you are planning to do. It should be black/bronze to match whatever the handles on the cabinet is or white if you want to lean more modern farmhouse. Brass probably isnt the right option. I'd say go with something inspired by a traditional shape with a modern element. So a simple federal style in black, for example. Going with too much of a statement is polarizing, but you also don't need to go totally builder grade. If you're the renter, do what you want. That said, I'd say still stick with a blended traditional/modern look consistent with the rest of the rooms

IMO light fixtures are a thing that is a visual more than a formula. A very light looking linear fixture could work but I need to see the sapce I like fixtures that light the table not the ceiling so maybe like this but I need to see the space , the table and your other lighting

Maybe have a semi-flush mount, and also use floor and table lamps. This will provide better lighting than just from above.
