It is a real struggle to find just the right rug for a room. I really like the one you chose. I kept cream colored walls and a solid sofa to go with our colorful Persian rug, but I used accent colors taken from the rug on the chairs. My rug is 10x13 and I found it on Ebay. I wanted a hand knotted, wool rug and ended up with this one for only $125.00. It pays to keep looking! Sorry about the picture quality. I agree with Lindsay that wool is by far my favorite for rugs in living and dining areas. However, they are the most expensive, so depending on your budget you might look into PET, a synthetic made from recycled plastic. It sounds very weird, but I just purchased one from Annie Selke and it looks and feels just like wool. It is also indoor/outdoor and can be washed with soap and water. Sisal, sea grass and jute are also great looks at reasonable prices. I wouldn't use them under a dining table since they can stain and are more difficult to vacuum. Sisal and sea grass are also not comfortable to walk on in bare feet. Jute is a bit softer underfoot. Many designers use large sized sisal/jute rugs under smaller, more expensive wool rugs.

I love color too and agree with Patricia, but I know a lot of people like the monochromatic look. I have a peach rug in my living room from old new house — an oushak from the 50s. It was 600$ for a 7x10. True Turkish, Persian, and kilim rugs you can pass down to your children, grandchildren ;) what sets this rug apart is even if a rug is labeled “handmade”, they are often still using power looms. Also, the artisans were involved in the design of the rug — not a corporate office :) it was made in turkey by local artisans— not China or India :) a lot of people aren’t going to care about any of this but a little rug knowledge is good to have.

The rug is fine but I think you need larger nightstands so they can be centered under the windows. I'd go with white 3-drawer ones. Something like these, perhaps? I like the navy ones posted above, too. Then get yourself some artwork for the room and maybe some textured throw pillows for the bed that have indigo/navy in them. (These are examples; not necessarily to be purchased together.) Lamps should be simple. I'd go with a glass or ceramic lamp in a contemporary bubble style:
