I like your idea! Not only for looks, but function (privacy). I think the style is very appropriate for your house.

For landscaping, I’d get inspiration from MCM style or Japanese gardens. Sculptural, shaped, hardscaping elements. Simple, but interesting and elegant.

I like your idea but I would do a vertical slat partition. You already have vertical siding under your gable and it's a small house, so I think repeating that element would look better since they will be close together. It would also be a nice counterpoint, the verticals on the upper left and more verticals on the lower right.

Two followups. I would also use a dark semitransparent stain on the new partition to mimic the siding under the gable, this highlights their connection on the small front face of the house. And I would not extend it to the ground. This isn't a wall or a fence, it's a partition and it should give some privacy and separation without having the look of a fortress. Keeping it off the ground about 2 feet still gives privacy but makes it lighter.

Ok, these mock-ups are laughable because I only had the options of using an actual fence panel. :D

But just to give an idea (I hope) of each — vertical and horizontal wood.

I really like the horizontal slats with this house, I'm concerened that you have shown it too tall (in some jurisdictions they do not allow fences in front of houses above a certain height)

I think you would get a similar effect with a 48" tall fence, not complete privacy obviously but definition and explaining which door to use. Obviously remove the house numbers off the garage door as that would make me assume that is the main door.

I use iScape for my own yard, it’s really helped me get an idea of how things would look. Has actually saved me money! I’m a total amateur at using these things, and just needed something basic, there are way better ones out there!

The slat fence idea is a good one for disguising the garage door. Another idea would be to paint the garage door the same color as the siding so it doesn't stand out.

For a long-term fix, could that garage door be moved to the opposite corner? As is, it creates a really awkward front entry. If it were moved, you could enlarge your front stoop into something more appropriately-sized for your house.

I'm not sold on the look. I don't think the house is MCM enough to pull this off.

Paint the garage door the same color as the stucco, and move the house numbers off the garage door, to the front section of the house. Add a railing to the front porch and stairs.

Then landscape with decent-size evergreen shrubs all the way across, including in front of the patio.

Is there anyway to extend the upper fascia to the end of the roofline? It is an odd break that's baffling. I agree; paint the garage door the same as the stucco until you can move or eliminate it (or not). (Why do you even need it there?) I like the red door (maybe not that exact color), but find it competes too much with the bright white of your windows. All your inspiration pics have windows that meld into the entire picture. That's why the more subtle color you showed works. I think the horizontal slats are more calming and less fence-like. It only needs to hide the top of the window.

Hey, yeah I agree, horizontal slats would look much better that normal vertical posts. Also, I think you should consider adding some plants along the fence; it would look nice.
