Please help my tiny hideous master bedroom!!
Comments (135)omg, I just got so happy with my bedroom and today the demo on the adjoining master bath began and it has all gone to hell so fast! I know it will all be worth it but holy cow, what an ungodly mess. The DUST, the dust!! I'm going to head out and buy five--ten more of those huge thin plastic drop cloths tomorrow first thing just to protect furniture in other rooms from all the dust. I doubt I could make those shades, but perhaps I will try... my mom is visiting this week and she is an absolute genius with a sewing machine. Maybe I'll see if she is game.:)...See MoreNeed new siding, windows, and front door. Need help!
Comments (26)Jean, in the rendering below, I matched the siding on your house to the swatches you just posted. I cannot, however, adjust for lighting, so It's critical to get samples and paint them at your site to see what they look like under your actual conditions. Good luck....See MoreMy front door needs help!
Comments (1)It's entirely possible that a header does span across the entire opening. Possible that the house originally had sidelights that were removed (or covered up). For reasons of energy efficiency or concerns about security and/ or privacy. Or the door was being replaced and the owners didn't want to shell out for a door with $idelights. One suggestion for a quick and relatively inexpensive way to improve the looks would be to remove the applied molding and install raised panel shutters on either side of the door. Various widths are available; the height should be standard. You'll be able to get close enough, I think, without having to resort to a full custom wood shutter....See MoreHelp! Hideous Lighting!
Comments (11)I guess it really is true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder; I absolutely love that lighting. And yes, brass/gold is definitely en vogue these days. I would also agree that those fixtures in your rental are classic. Well... you know the old adage, “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” You could really have a lot of fun with it; you could mix it up. Find a floor lamp that has black and or gold detail and maybe a table lamp or two; some pieces that you like and can possibly also use in your next place. https://www.crateandbarrel.com/hyde-brass-and-bronze-metal-tripod-floor-lamp/s614916 Or as also suggested, change the fixtures out and make sure to put them back carefully when you are leaving. Those fixtures have some age on them, though, so not sure I would personally want to mess with that. Wouldn’t want to risk damaging them, and who knows what’s going on with the electrical connections. But if you have a very good electrician, you can try. I think I would probably either complement them, or just ignore them. As Jen K notes, directly above - you are only there for a year; so it shouldn’t be a big deal, in any case. In my case, I’d be in heaven - and would be trying to figure out how to sneak them out when I leave. 😂...See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
