Tell me about your 3D design software
Comments (5)I think the nice thing about the Chief Arch/BH&G software is that it's user friendly. You might not know all the tricks for perfecting details without using it awhile, but you can create a 3D in no time. The other thing is that there are so many versions, so you don't have to get an expensive one, and there may be some older versions out there for less, too...But, of course, the newer ones have more material and appliance options, so are more fun. :-) Here are 2 kinds of renderings of my kitchen design and how the kitchen is turning out so far: And here is a rendering I did for Malhgold and the link below is a thread in which you can see her kitchen and how it compares to the drawing (there were some design changes next to the fridge and in the island after this rendering was made, but this is the latest one I had loaded on photobucket): Here is a link that might be useful: Malhgold's thread with photos...See MoreSweet Home 3d Software first try
Comments (1)Glad you liked the program. I've not used it in quite sometime. Doing things like that is very time consuming and can be mentally exhausting that's for sure. But it's fun and rewarding too. It's too bad it's not that easy to move and set up our furniture in real life. :-) Have a nice day today ~ FlowerLady...See More3D renderings of home to help guide kitchen layout
Comments (9)yep mom2... the bathroom is on the other side of the wall where I showed the dining table. Great idea about a door in the living room that would go into the music room! That never even entered my mind. There is an outside door in the music room since it used to be a garage and also the door in the old laundry room that led to it. I figured I'd give this layout a try since it rained all weekend and I was down at the house with nothing to do. When I have time I'd do a 3D with the whole house layout. It really helps me feel how it would be to move through the space. Whatever I come up with; I'm going to have to concede the table placement ultimately. That's one point he's pretty focused on; especially since he's been down there so much and spending alot of time hanging in there. Of course.... there's no furniture anywhere else and we have lawn furniture in there but it is what it is. If necessary; I'll just switch the table out; especially if we end up with a layout I love. It'll come down to price somewhat. He's under the WRONG impression that to remove 4' of wall and move the plumbing will cost over 10K. I have no clue where he's getting his numbers from (maybe pulling it out of .... I'll stop there) Anyway... thanks so much for your input. I think the family is planning on moving in in about a month or so. That'll put everything on the back burner for awhile. and... Comments (11)Thanks, Cyn. I'll try that. I have a couple days left on my trial. Re Google Sketchup: I've just begun using it. There are some appliances and such like available. You can also pull them out of other kitchens people have uploaded. Not 100% conventient but not dire either. Also, it's really easy to make something that's pretty much box shaped. Here's a picture of my first model, of the 30" Sharp Microwave Drawer. First I saved the image from the web and cropped it to just the drawer using PaintShopPro (any image software will work). Then I drew a box the right size in sketchup, using lines and the Entity Info tool to get the size right. I'm still learning and I accidentally cut the back open, but that doesn't really matter. Last step, import the picture as a texture and fit it to the face of the box. It doesn't have the slight protrusion of the handle, but then even though I'm doing this to scale, it's not plan perfect, so it doesn't matter. The strengths of this program, once one really absorbs how to make boxes, make up for it.
