It is the most Impressive this year than other years... I also had to really stop and admire the coloration this time. Before, it was a pretty bloom.. This year it is just stunning to me. I'm happy !! I guess they do like VB.. They are doing great!! Thank you so much!! A compliment like yours means a lot.. Especially knowing you gave your away and if yours looked like mine. Wow.. Makes me fell great! Mahalo!! tamala... Lol.. It does resemble a yard further south!!! That is what I always tried to do... Make it look like I was somewhere in Florida, Cali or in the islands. So, thank you!!!...See MoreMy Hawaiian friends from Virginia!!!
Comments (14)Hi Dave!! So glad to hear that your Divine is " An inflo Machine". Lol. Mine is too, so I guess the mother is acting like her offspring? Lol. That wasa single tip when I sent it to you? I remember it falling over and it broke off during a storm and I was heartbroken, but was glad to send it to you.. It seems it is a beast!! I'm thrilled... Sad to report .., I lost all three of my Pindos.. All had to be cut down at the base. I also lost a Sabal Palmetto in the back corner area of my yard along with a Pindo. So I don't have any Butias left.. I, heart broken at this loss. We had such a cold winter and they just couldn't recover after last years winter. I'm not going to replace them.. To much work now... I still have Four Sabals and Two Windmills. They all need to be trimmed up but they do have green fronds pushing so they will be pretty once I get the extension pole with little chainsaw attached.. Lol. I feel like Bud G with his tools.. Thanks for the update on your Divine. I would love to see it crossed with some reds with fragrance too!! Better get on it!! Lol. I know you are in your garage working on cross pollinations.. ;-) Laura...See MoreJ L Dane Blooming In Virginia Beach, Virginia
Comments (12)From Diana's notes: This might answer your questions on this J L Dane ( Jim Little Dane) Dane JL not Thai Dane, very similar to Taj Majal. Yellow with red pointed layered edges sometimes 6 to 7 petals. Named after JL's grandson. The flowers are extraordinary - a deep gold in the center that goes through the petals, green veining when it first opens and changes to a vibrant red. Each petal curls inward to form a pointed tip. Upright growth habit with beautiful, full heads and a light sweet papaya fragrance. Must have heat to bloom correctly. Named after JL's grandson. Very fast growing. Needs heat to bring out colors. Heat lover. 2.5-3.5”. Tips of petals fold inwards. Golden yellow with dark gold center. Tips are dark pink almost red and the edges and back are the same color. Needs heat. Performs best in cooler weather. Sweet scent. Excellent keeping quality. Medium to fast grower and an easy rooter. 2 1/2 ", not hard to grow. Big bouquet and very fragrant. Poor branching, needs to grow 4’. Leggy. Sets seed. ************************************************************************************************************* Price varies on the variety.. I can't remember the exact amount that I paid. It wasn't under lets say 50 dollars and if I can recall..it was on a bidding session with Matt's EBay sight. I think you could find one rooted for under 100. I don't like to really discuss prices because some are very expensive to some and others will pay a certain price in order to acquire " a certain variety" to add to their collection. I know you must be loving this one, but it all depends if you want to invest in certain cultivars.. i hope this helps!!! Laura...See MoreCote D'Or Openibg In Virginia Beach, Virginia!!
Comments (21)Hi Andre! Welcome to the group!! it is very special to finally see your first bloom and feel the excitement of growing this in your own garden! Be careful of some of those videos on utube from certain " specialist!!" Some of those do not give the correct information and might steer you in the wrong direction! Just an FYI for you being new. If you need any advise.. the regulars here are very knowledgeable and we all don't mind answering questions! Again, welcome!! Hi Brennan... i usually don't trade or take cuttings unless there is a specific reason to cut, but I do like to help or give out when I have some from breaks or storms knocking them over. Thank you for you interest in my collection. I do have quite a few varieties and I do have a few that are rooting now ( cuttings) Once they have rooted, I'll post here for you and I'll give you one that you don't have in your collection. Many years ago I would cut just to share with friends and I wasn't watching how the overall shape of the tree would be. Now, I'm more sensitive about cutting and trying to have a better balanced/ shaped tree. Have a great day!! Laura...See MoreLoveplants2 8b Virginia Beach, Virginia
