Coffee table distance from sofa?
Comments (9)This might help: Measuring Space - How Much Room Do You Really Need? by Pamela Cole Harris When planning your home décor, it is vitally important to understand your space needs. Do you have enough room to open any doors? Can you walk from one side of the room to the other without climbing over the furniture? Here are some rules to keep in mind when you plan your room update: 1. Living Room - Keep in mind that for good conversational and traffic flow, keep at least 4-10 feet between sofa and chairs. Place your coffee table between 14-18 inches from the sofa (although I would only use 18 inches if you have lonnnnng arms!). 2. Family Room - To the above rules about sofa and chair placement, add the viewing area needed for a television. To view a 30 inch TV screen, the sofa or chair should be at least 90 inches away (but not so far that you have to change your glasses prescription to view!). To create an easy flow in any room, there should be traffic lanes which are at least three feet wide. 3. Dining Room - A seated adult at a round or square table usually occupies a depth of about 20 inches with at least 12-16 inches more to pull back a chair. Rectangular tables need at least 24 inches per person and about 32-36 inches clearance between table and walls. On the serving side, the table to wall distance should be at least 44 inches. 4. Bedroom - For maximum comfort, the distance from the bed to the wall should be at least 24 inches. To allow any door to open easily, there should be 36 inches between the bed and the door. Knowing how much space you really need in a room can make planning your space much easier. Be sure to measure your room height and length, the size of windows and check to see of your room is "true" or square before you place your furniture. Doing so will help avert a potential disaster like buying a king-size bed for a queen-size room! Comments (22)Thanks all! A few days later and I'm still smiling as I walk by each time, a good sign:) oaktonmom - Please tell me why you like the idea of 2 smaller ottomans. This is not something I've considered! olychick - Thanks! patty_cakes - Glad to hear, I liked your comment about it not being dated (made me think). mtnrdredux - I make my little decorating decisions serially vs. in parallel (unlike other people who decorate entire homes in one fell swoop--no names of course!). No, I had just photoshopped a few dozen rugs and was paralyzed by indecision. Your comment reminded me to go back to my old threads and look some more. I think I have a decision, just need to figure out how true this color is. nosoccermom, finallyhome - Exactly how I feel (I am not the bargain shopper and am thrilled!) voila - I will have to darken the color to match the sofa legs, it is lighter than showing and I have yet to take a decent picture. So, clean up scratches and maybe strip entirely? I apologize but the donuts were inhaled shortly after photo was taken. emmarene - is yours as short as this? I am surprised at home much I like the low height. holly-kay - thank you! You are always so supportive of all of us:)...See MoreProgress on DD's apt - part 2 (coffee table added, next up lamp & art)
Comments (8)I think she could do better on the lamp. Her colors are warm so I don't see how silver fits, and I think the base and the shade are too close to the wall color. It doesn't feel like the rest of the room so it kind of serves the purpose of throwing one thing different into a room just for the sake of creating an eclectic look or for "interest". I pick up a cottage vibe with the wood table and bookcase and pillows. I think a rattan lamp might be nice with the sofa color and to add some organic texture to the room. Has she tried putting the bookcase flat against the wall? Then she could do another lamp and table. The bookcase is "posed" for photos and for view when entering, but I think it'd look more natural if it was positioned facing the seating....See Morecoffee table for 2 full sofas?
Comments (7)Is the room conducive to putting the sofas in an L shape and the chairs at the open end of the L making it a horseshoe? That would be more visually appealing and also allow room for a small coffee table. To give you the best advice, it would help if you could post a picture, or at a minimum a close to scale drawing that includes all the main furniture and fireplace/hearth. Then we could give much more specific advice....See MoreNewLinkz
