Starphire shows the tile in its true color. once you live with starphire, regular glass will give you the creeps :) I disagree :-) I like the greenish cast of "regular" glass and the starfire stuff in seems comparatively uninteresting and pointless to me. To me, that green cast says calm, relax, water, beach, spa, whatever. In Massachusetts where I am, the Starphire glass is the same price (or barely different) than the regular green glass and I went out of my way to specify that they put in the regular stuff. I picked a thicker glass at that - 3/4" thick walls - and I can just about see that green. I've got plenty of the tile in my bath - the glass wall presents an additional bit of interest in that room as you look around the room from tile-no-glass to tile-behind-glass. I like it. So, if you were to ask me, the pro for starfire vs. not is that you have a choice. I did my two bathroom remodels 3 and 5 years ago and during one of them I seem to remember that diamond fusion option present itself as a surface coating to help keeping it clean(er) and I think that is what I picked for the first bathroom. That is an all-glass shower (well, all 4 walls) and I wipe it down with a miracle cloth after every shower. I have no idea if the diamond fusion is doing any good or not because I've always Miracle Cloth'd that shower (it is "my" shower) so I don't know how to evaluate it. That shower certainly does stay very very clean - I've only Windexed it once a year because my wiping does an excellent job keeping that glass clean. The other shower I don't believe is anything but the 3/4" regular glass, it is my husband's shower and he just squeegees the shower. That one needs the Windex treatment I've noticed more often than does mine, but frankly, I suspect the squeegeeing (which I've never found very effective) vs. my miracle cloth wiping. But I just don't know.

I agree with his fix, although I'd be using siliconized latex caulk from the same company that made the grout. In fact, it shouldn't be "the fix". It should've been done that way in the first place. I would have him score out the rest of the grout in that joint around the shower and caulk the entire thing, because the rest of it WILL come out, sooner or later.

If you are very lucky you can find someone with severe OCD to regrout. The steps will be to remove the old grout to at least half the depth of the tile thickness, vacuum, re-grout, seal. Staining the old grout will just as painful / expensive. After recovering from the pricing you are getting, buy a dremel tool and 40 or 50 grinding wheels to remove the grout yourself. If using a cement based grout read this. We prefer the new single component grouts such as FUsion Pro or Flexcolor CQ

For some reason several notifications popped up today that I never knew were on this thread or a couple others. I thought it may be helpful to some who may read through this (and reassuring to those who were concerned) to see in first two photos the watertight way the shower was structured, then in last two photos are the colors of grout/what I ended up doing (per my original purpose of posting this question on Houzz) : ^^^This red/pink stuff is the waterproof material that was put all over the shower/in niche/etc before the tile went on. And as I had mentioned in prior comments, a large curb was always the plan as you will see in this almost-finished photo :) *Note: The unfinished window is a reflection and not actually in the shower Finally, for those who looked at this thread in search for answers to their own questions about grout colors, I went with Tec Dove Gray Sanded Powergrout on the floor and niche (wherever the hex was), and Tec Silverado Unsanded regular grout on the walls with Powerboost added (to make the unhanded grout a form of Powergrout) on the walls...choosing the lighter gray to soften the bright white so that it would work better with the warm white vanity. The Powergrout has posed no issues whatsoever in the last month since the shower has been used. We did seal the floors/walls for additional mold/mildew/stain resistance. This is a good representation of what the colors of tile and grout look like in reality...the Dove Gray appears a bit softer in person though.
