Living room help needed....piano corner doesn't sing
Comments (41)Hi all, no photos yet as I've come down with a bad cold; taking a decorating timeout. Right now I'm sitting in the LR with a fuzzy bathrobe and some hot tea. But sometimes a couple of days to let things settle is a good thing. GK, I'm looking forward to seeing your piano. Mine used to be turned so that the keys were visible in the room. It has its advantages, for sure. Awhile back I posted here with another question about the Living room, and Les suggested I look at turning it the way it is now. I hadn't thought of doing it that way, and once I tried it, I really like it especially from the viewpoint of the person playing or singing. Now I have a view of the outside instead of looking up into a corner, and it's wonderful. Whatever you decide, when you have your piano delivered, I'd advise trying it a couple of different ways while you have the movers there. I can't wait to see your pics; I'm sure it will be beautiful, and what a wonderful addition to your life! Oh, and I'm going to check into a way to raise the height to a different level. Right now mine has two settings; one very high, and another about 4 or 5 inches. I'd love something in between, and it looks like the piece that holds the top up is something you just screw into place. So maybe there is one that would allow me to keep it raised but just not so high. Thanks jenny, bigdog, and oceanna. I appreciate your interest and kind words. Oceanna, I do like your suggestion about a more colorful piano shawl. If I go back in that direction I will definitely try something else. I agree that when the lid is raised it's not the best for seeing the artwork, although that view is only a problem when you view it from a sitting position. When you are standing up or walking around, the art shows up better. I do love the three paintings there now and will most likely keep them on that wall. The painting of the young lady used to be in my kitchen, and I miss her there, so she may go back eventually. So that wall is probably in play......(LOL) as you said in one of your other posts, it really never ends, does it?...See MoreHelp with BM gray that doesn't read blue?? (xpost from Paint)
Comments (11)My daughter has Coventry and I love it but agree it has blue in it. I also like Revere Pewter but it does read beige grey. Other grey's that don't read beige and don't have blue in them are BM Sea Haze 2137-50 and gray owl on same strip 2137-60. I see some green undertones in them. Ozark shadows AC 26 has less beige than Revere Pewter with no blue. It's also about as deep as Coventry. Harbor gray, one lighter on strip AC 25 looks more true grey but lighter than Coventry. I know you said no purple undertone, but my neighbor used a beautiful grey called Valspar Smooth Pebble, which looks like a beautiful med. grey in her bedroom. I wouldn't have realized it had purple undertones until we tried to have it mixed by BM. They screwed it up and it showed alot of purple on the swatch we painted on the wall. However, even as badly mixed as it was, once it dried , it dried a nice grey. But we didn't give it a chance cause we freaked cause her bedroom was painted purple prior to the grey. So she went with coventry. also, Silver Fox BM2108-50 is a popular grey but I do see purple/tan undertones, much like the Valspar color. I would try Silver Fox, Valspar smooth pebble and Ozark Shadows. If you want lighter and tanner, then Revere Pewter....See MoreFamily room doesn't get much light, need help with paint colors!

Comments (9)2 more than 1. Maybe. From watching fortunianas in other peoples' gardens, I think this is the way they work. First you get a new cane. It grows a terminal breath taking bloom, which we enjoy and then cut off. That causes the next laterals to push new canes with terminal blooms. That first cane doesn't lengthen, but the laterals bloom higher than the previous bloom. Then the next batch of laterals let loose, and on down the cane. What I think may be very important is those lateral buds that are so often overlooked at the very base of a major new cane. The ones that are much more closely spaced (fractions of an inch) than the ones five inches or so out the cane. The laterals that often are accompanied by a very subtle horizontal line that goes half way around the cane. The laterals that if they push a leaf at all, push a leaf that is mostly stipule and almost no terminal leaf and never a compound leaf. These drop off. But I think with scions on fort. these very basal most laterals are going to be the source of the major canes in years to come. Because, if I'm right, these have to be protected at all cost. If the scion base is buried, those lateral buds, having vibrantly healthy meristemic tissues, are going to become roots because they are underground. I think that is why it's important to keep the grafted area above ground. I've wondered if the shapes of the pots should be more like 40 gallon drums cut in half. Or even thirds with the middle third thrown away. And painted white to keep the temperatures colder in winter months. Then black come summer. I've even wondered if bubble wrap would be an acceptable insulation, Wrapped so it would look like the Michelin man tire advertisement. I could bore you with my attempts to winterize and how most of what I tried just made better growing conditions for canker. The other thing would be a rap a and hat. Gertrude Jekyl in several of her gardening books has sketched by Markeley showing a protection for rose standards (as opposed to rose dwarfs on much shorter 'stems'. What they (G and M) thought was important was to deflect snow, ice and water from the graft up in the air. For all the world, what they made looks like a decorative broom, lost so long twigs, maybe rushes, tied together at one end, but not around a broom handle. The sketches look like the pointed end of a witches hat, without a brim. (You may be able to download her books via Google.) This might help your idea #2 work. Ann...See MoreFlo Mangan
