I need help from the experts!
Comments (5)First of all congratulations on what you did 5 years ago. Nearly everybody cuts off the whole spike. You, not knowing anything about orchids, did the right thing! Second, congratulations for keeping your orchid growing even though it wasn't flowering. 90+% end up in the trash can. Why isn't it flowering any more? If it's any consolation some Phals are an absolute ***** to reflower. Unfortunately repotting doesn't help. In fact many orchids flower better when they are pot bound. It sounds to me as if your plant has got too comfortable living in your nice home and it's time to wake it up a bit. 1. Give it some direct sun first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Not too much,no more than 90 minutes, Phals are easy to burn. You must be willing to risk that. 2. If that doesn't work, dump a few ice cubes on the compost during the day, then stop watering altogether. Every day repeat the mantra. "Flower you *** of a *****. If you don't you're gonna die!" 3. Give it to a friend - nearly the orchids I have given away have flowered within a year for somebody else! Best of luck - Ian....See MoreNeed some help from the experts for sargent cherry
Comments (3)Understand the point you're trying to make, but everything I've read suggests that the tree is tolerant of both acidic and slightly alkaline soils, clay, loam and sand. Not sure what the soil is like (everything else is doing okay), but it is well drained black dirt. Could chlorosis develop due to it being it's first year in that soil? Do trees adapt to soil conditions?...See MoreI need help from the experts.
Comments (17)Tammy, You won't get it the way you want it to look the first year. After this year, you will see how things grow, how they look together, how the spacing works, and make changes. In year two, it will be much better. But then, you have to think about rotating the third year! It never ends, but ENJOY it. But definitely plan on pulling out the peas in May and replacing with either cukes or pole beans. It works out perfectly. And find shady places if you want the chance to have salad greens almost all summer. I tuck mine under the tomatoes and underneath my A-frames on which my cukes and beans are planted. That gets me through until fall planting. Carrots also like it under the tomatoes and I like the way the lacy foliage hides the bare tomato stalks close to the ground. You'll find ways to tuck plants into your spaces to make more room and get the look you want. Marcy...See MoreNeed some help from some Glass and Window pros - white haze problem
Comments (8)Hi Sandra, Good information, #2 and #5 being the most important. In addition to # 2 telling us that Cardinal is the glass company, #5 tells us that Windsor made their own IGU's, since Cardinal doesn't use superspacer. You have Cardinal Glass in your doors that was put together into an IGU by Windsor. But we don't know for sure who tempered the glass, and frankly it doesn't really matter since you need it fixed no matter who did it. The supplier needs to chat with the window company and let them know that you still have belly haze and you feel that the glass is not acceptable. Either they need to fix it to your satisfaction (it can be fixed, it's actually pretty easy to do), or replaced with acceptable glass. For a bit more background, belly haze consists of microscopic scratches that occur as the glass rides ceramic rollers in the tempering furnace. During the tempering process the glass isn't laying nice and flat, it's actually changing shape and moving quite a bit. Belly haze occurs when the glass is concave (middle down, edges up) to the rollers and the weight of the glass sheet in the center is riding the rollers. If detected, belly haze can be eliminated by adjusting the settings on the tempering line, but it can be very difficult to detect in a factory setting. Unfortunately it does show up quite well in full sunlight. I am not sure what you were seeing as cloudiness (separate from belly haze), in your original post. LoE-366 will darken your glass a bit compared with clear glass, but haze and clarity parameters for all Cardinal coatings are very good and they should never give a cloudy appearance....See MoreRelated Professionals
