What wrong with my Echeveria???
Comments (1)Possibly too much water when it was dry. Just like cactus when you start up watering in the early spring. If you give them too much water they tend to expand too quickly and split. Anyway that's my thoughts....See MoreWhat's wrong with my echeveria?
Comments (2)Looks sunburnt. Suggest separating cactus from succulents; succulents need more frequent water than cacti. (not frequent; but more frequent than cacti). Pot also looks much too large, unless it's only about 2" deep. Also if you can let them all summer outside, the cacti in full sun, the echeverias in a few hours of early morning sun. Plants should be introduced very very gradually to direct sun to avoid sunburn....See MoreWhat's wrong with my Echeverias?
Comments (13)The 'magnifying glass' idea doesn't work for me either, while I understand that many ppl strongly believe in it. I would re-examine the mix; doesn't sound good and well draining: too much of soil and sand that are likely fine and stay too wet for too long, and very little perlite that helps drainage. Have you sprayed in full sun? It may have burned the leaves - not because of magnifying glass theory but chemical (?) reaction in strong light & heat. Methylated spirits could be drying and irritating to human skin - possibly to plants too? Will not kill plants - it is about 90% alcohol with some additives. One of them is methanol that is highly toxic (but not in small amount added to spirits I believe...) Is same damage on all your echeverias? How many plants with this kind of damage? Joey - I don't see you mentioning your general location/growing zone. Please...add to your name as others did. It may help to give better advice and/or figure out possible problems....See MoreWhats wrong with my Echeveria? discolouration problem
Comments (6)It may just be the photo as neither have been watered in 3 weeks or so, the soil is quite sandy so that may be why it looks wet, not sure if it's any good but it's cactus focus succulent and cactus soil; will definitly be adding some perlite/pumice on your recommendation as it doesn't seem to have anywhere near that kind of ratio! :) I think my zone is 9a (I just looked it up) so not sure what that would mean! Have also added some photos from the side to see if this will help, good idea! leaves are firm and don't fall off easily (according to my mum as unfortunately i'm on holiday at the moment so can't see for myself), she said she gave them a gentle wiggle and they seemed well attatched. From a perspective of watering I always water from the bottom or very carefully under the leaves, I'm as confused as you are as I thought they were rotting but she's checked everything I've asked and is adamant they don't show those signs other than the colour :/ thanks for all your help everyone! Maybe it's nothing to worry about, just hard not to worry as I can't see for myself and they weren't this way when I left apart from very mild discolouration in the bluebird (which is now worse!)...See More- 6 years ago
