What are temperatures like where you keep it? Did you water it often? Is there a drainage hole in the pot? Is that original mix from store?

Well I live in San Diego so temperatures are usually between 58-78 on that windowsill. I don’t water it too often since it’s a humid climate, maybe twice a month when the soil feels completely dry. I gave it a little bit of water this morning. I think I repotted it when I got it, but I think the soil is still too peat-y.

How much water do you give it? And yes, the potting is bad. Also, no drainage hole?

Sorry no no drainage hole. Usually just enough to let the soil get moist without making it into a soup. I don’t use a measuring tool

So, your plant has rotted due to 3 problems

-your soil is too much water retaining

- your pot isnt draining, even if it drained, itd still accumulate, and that'd be a problem

-you added to much water " without making it into a soup " is pretty much the exact opposite of how you should water a succulent. Usually just a very light pour, enough to make it finger deep moist, but not soaking

Rot is a gradual process, usually people notice it when its too late.

Thanks! The way you just described is how I have been watering this plant. I think you misunderstood me. So basically the soil is the issue then.

Michele, youd be surprised how much a difference drainage holes can do....

Never put any succulent into a pot without a drainage hole - don´t even think of trying - it won´t end happily, as you have found. And use a gritty mix without peat (generally commercial so-called ´cactus mixes´ are mostly peat) - that will drain well. Good luck with it.

Better still, don’t put any kind of plant in a pot without drainage holes unless you want to kill it!
