Boiling water?

User

So, in my on-going quest to find safe weed-killing strategies (I swore off Round-Up!) I heard on a BBC gardening show about using boiling water to kill weeds. I have 2 areas where I want to do extensive weed-killing. One is infested with matricaria, the other with brambles. I had the idea of boiling up a big pasta pots worth of water, and dumping it on them. My questions are 1. has anybody tried this, and was it effective? and 2. High temps are now in the mid-40s. Should I wait until temps are higher, would that make it work better?

Of course, I do know about covering with black plastic and letting time and sun do the trick, but I'm kind of in a hurry in these 2 spots (plus black plastic is awfully ugly). And of course I know about hand-weeding (boy, do I ever, lol!) but I'm only one medium-sized human with unfortunately limited time for gardening. Thanks for any advice, support, or words of wisdom!
