Please Help: Suggestions on Living Room Window Treatment
Comments (4)I don't like the idea of a shade over the transom. it's a beautiful window. what about a type of glass inlay, stained glass or a leaded glass? they make it to fit those dimensions and you install it w/a special caulk to hold it in place. I did one w/our bathroom window. yours could look something like this you could have any design you want, just showing an example. I think it would look way better than covering it. if you want the name of someone, let me know, I have a girl on Etsy who makes custom stained glass/beveled glass. i've also seen these faux iron covers for transoms if you really don't like the transom, another option would be to have it removed and covered w/drywall. I like the idea of blinds. roman blinds, woven woods, silhouettes shades, etc. these are cellulars and come in a ton of colors/sizes (blinds.com) decide which look you like, and then go from there. beautiful room w/all of the light. I would do a nice potted plant in the corner of the two windows you could also do the plant, woven wood blinds, and some white drapes like so: I wouldn't bother w/shades on the door unless someone in the house behind you can see right in....See MoreGreat Room window treatments and layout help (please!!)
Comments (19)Thanks for the visual Okibujp. The room is approx. 22' X 17'. The room is an addition, the opening to the room is from the kitchen and is about 9'. I am thinking it was once a sliding door to the outside. We have left the kitchen open, without a table. I am wondering if it would be awkward to come through the large opening to the back of the couch? Fenstermann, I love the idea of an inside mount shade, however they will not work for the type of windows we have. I do feel like it is a shame to cover the molding we just had painting, which is why we have left the windows alone. I am just looking for a little privacy once the trees drop leaves and we do not have coverage. Patricia, I love blues and thought the cognac would go nicely. Regarding the solar shades, they would need to be outside mount. How would you do that with the far windows, with the curved top window and also draperies? In your experience, would leather fade without the solar shades? Thanks again for your input!...See MoreHelp me with window treatments please!
Comments (1)Hi JJ! Actually, you seem like you have a pretty good handle on your window treatment ideas. I like them! Just a couple of pointers and suggestions: Depending on where your fireplace wall and kitchen windows are in relationship to each other, you may want them all to match as either the natural wood or roman shades. If they’ve got plenty of visual separation, you’re fine to do the two different styles. Make sure to spend some time looking at how the kitchen wood blind coordinates with your cabinet wood. More contrast (a darker wood on the blind) would probably be better since you likely won’t match the cabinets exactly. You can cheat the kitchen and fireplace treatments a little higher to give an illusion of more height. The shades need to be a little wider than the outside of the trim and you can’t raise them above the top of the window glass itself. Then you’ll create the illusion properly. Hang the living and dining room rods near the ceiling and level with each other. The curtains should go all the way to the floor. Again, creating an illusion of more height. Overall though, trust your instincts! I think your ideas will work well with your decor. Hope that helps! Doug Walker...See MorePlease help me with furniture layout in our living room
Comments (30)In my opinion you could go neutral sofa, neutral lounge chair, and green or patterned accent chairs. Would you want a pattern on your accent chairs? Or would you like to keep pattern to the rug and curtains and accessories? Another thing to think about is armrests versus no armrests...I think no armrest would look cleaner for the accent chairs, but I don’t think they would be super comfortable. Here are some options...See MoreTreesh Gal
