Bug id please - these are destroying my garden.
Comments (10)Yeah it is hatching time for all the grubs. You may want to consider treating your yard and soil with Milky Spore to eliminate the grubs if you have a serious infestation of them. If you kill the grubs then the damage done by the beetles is markedly reduced. Organic control will be difficult once they hatch as most organic controls are directed at killing the grubs (Milky Spore and parasitic nematodes). After hatch we are left with row covers, scouting and hand picking them, Pyrethrin-based insecticides, and Neem Oil all of which are only marginally effective. Google Japanese Beetles controls for all the details. Dave...See MorePlease help me ID some succulents in my collection? Thanks!
Comments (7)Yes, Welcome to the forum. Those are quite a few to go through for ID. Just have a few minutes jumping in & out of the forum, so quick thoughts on some. 2. Does look like Haworthia cuspidata. 4. A. Is Aloe variegata on the right track with Haworthia pumila for 5. A & B. C. has been see listed by a couple of cultivar names, one being H. attenuata 'Wide Band' or 'Wide Zebra'. Nice Gloxinia! Just so you know, when writing plant names, single quotes are used on cultivar names. Species names are not capitalized. Common names or nicknames can use double quotes (but are not necessary). I believe all Bryophyllum have been moved back into Kalanchoe now. Cute pups, all! The Gasteria & Sans would require lengthy research. Sorry, I've no time for that now. Maybe I'll get back....See Morehelp! deer is destroying my garden!!
Comments (11)Get a dog! Or at least get your neighbors to get them! I live in Burlington County also, and that is what solved our problem with the deer. We have a new neighbor on the east side with a young and noisy Akita, and a Siberian husky that (sadly) spends his life on a chain on the other side. The groundhog and rabbits are still around but the damage they do is minimal compared to the deer. Believe me, I understand how upsetting it is after all the back breaking labor that goes into gardening but try not to take it personally, the deer are just hungry and they have been forced into our world by overdevelopement of their habitat. Have you searched the web for home-grown methods - like spraying water mixed with raw egg, cutting worn socks (dark colors to match leaves and mulch) into little pieces and scattering them thru the areas the deer invade - they don't like the human smell..though you would have to do this sort of thing often....anyway, there are more than a few websites with this kind of information. And maybe someone on this site will have some suggestions. You could also get a fence around the back yard, something high though! I am curious as to what you have planted, though I know they will eat alot of the so called deer resistant plants....See MoreNeed help with pests destroying my citron plants
Comments (9)Thanks Mikerno, I hope you are right! I've had them up on a stand the whole time. But the snail climbed up the legs of the table. I have since found (and removed) the snail that caused the damage and I have put copper tape around the legs of the table (I read online that snails cannot walk on copper). So hopefully that'll keep the snails away from now on. My main concern now is that the 5 damaged plants survive....See MoreStefan
