I've got some trim Benjamin Moore Simply White and some Behr Swiss Coffee. Both are really nice, although in my space, the Simply White is "brighter". White Dove was too gray for my house. I've recently bought a sample of Lowe's newest paint line by Valspar called Allen & Roth AR1016 Great White Way. It's a really mellow, soft white. A tip I read once was to buy the small craft paints. Paint them on sample boards to find a color you like, then take the board and have it color matched at your favorite paint dealer. The small 2oz bottles are cheap, you can get them less than $1. If you're near Hobby Lobby, they have Americana brand on sale this week for .77. I just bought a few for one of my kid's school projects. I found Americana and Folk Art brand ready mixed in colors called Warm White, Ivory White, Wicker White, French Vanilla, Winter White, Titanium White, Vintage White, White Wash etc. There are tons more in other brands too. How bright is the white of the trim? Does the trim extend into the kitchen? Is it open plan? Or a separate room? If the last, don't worry about it. It doesn't matter unless it bugs you. I wanted to do all my moldings in the same white but couldn't find a good one, so I used the pure white-white (I think it was BM Superwhite) and added one part of the "Maya Brown" of my rear entry wall to twelve parts pure white. This worked so well that I did all of the white walls in 8:1 of the same, and the downstairs ceiling in 5:1. That said, can you incorporate a subtone of the eggshell/brown into the bright white?

I'd look for a replacement light kit, one that has about 4 or 5 standard bulb sockets. What make is the fan?

Thank you everyone for the suggestions so far! I think I will definitely paint the walls a soft white or something between the white and cream. I never liked the green but couldn’t decide on a color so I’ve left it since we moved in a few months ago. The countertops have the backsplash thing attached so I’m going to try to see if I can remove that to put my own in. If I can’t remove it would it look ridiculous to do some small tiles above it between that and the upper cabinets? This is our first house and we don’t really have the budget to do new countertops or replace any cabinets so that’s not really in the picture. I’m just trying to make it look a little better! We have to keep the island because it has storage and we don’t have much of that. We also use it a ton for cooking. I don’t want to paint the trim to match the cabinets because all the trim in the rest of the house is white including the dining room which is open to the kitchen.
