Training kiwi‘s onto a trellis.

Hello all

I have five kiwi vines in various stages I’m about to train on to a trellis. Three of them started going bonkers last year (a good thing), got fruit off of one of them, so I should get them off the sticks and onto my yet unbuilt trellis. All the vines are just starting to get that furry bud now, so it’s good to do the heavy moving before they get shoots and flowers and fruit that can break off.

They are all branching very close to the ground, several branches, different directions, some of them an inch thick. Is the standard practice to pick one, try and force it vertically onto a trellis and hope you don’t break it or the roots, and hack the rest of the branches off?

Is it possible to keep several branches so as to get more fruit?
