Exterior paint dilemma on a 1966 brick ranch
Comments (10)Thanks for the helpful replies. LWO: Yes, the next step is to start redesigning the landscaping. I've already planted the seed in my dh's mind about replacing the cracked concrete driveway and widening the front walkway. That would lead to making the front porch a bit bigger and maybe adding a little patio under the window- sigh...I hope the seed germinates. Eggplant? I thought of that color initially and dh almost choked. I thought a grayish green w/o any blue would work with the brick. @Pal: Darn it! I thought I had that color wheel figured out. Next question: dh and neighbors think we should paint the trim around the garage doors a contrasting color. I'm trying to stay firm about making that side of the house monochrome but am beginning to waffle. Would using larger house numbers painted a contrasting color work instead of painting the trim? I could use the same color as the main door to tie it together. Maureen...See MorePink brick house, accent color dilemma
Comments (29)As others have said, there are simply too many, disparate forms, shapes, colors, textures, details, and tomfoolery! The best strategy, IMO, is to look for ways to unite and blend together as many of these unrelated objects as possible. Reduce the amount of contrast, don't increase it. Less is truly more. More is a bore!...See Morewhat exterior paint colors would make pink brick seem less pink? Help!
Comments (7)As noted earlier, the green just draws more attention. I would: 1) Remove the shutters from the double windows. 2) Paint all the trim and garage doors a nice medium taupe. Don't paint the garage doors a different color as it draws more attention to them. 3) Paint the shutters, maybe a darker tone of the trim. 4) Paint the front door. A black door with taupe trim/shutters would be very striking. If you're interested in seeing some virtual makeovers of your home, check out my website, Creative Visual Concepts. Comments (33)I love this bathroom discussion. I swear it’s our bathroom from when we were in college in a California duplex. We had geometric 50s wallpaper that had teal, pink, lavender, orange and silver in it. The cabinet was wood and looked just like yours. I’d sand and seal the cabinet and go after vintage wallpaper. We have never had a tub that matched that one for relaxed soaking. The other half of the duplex had green tile, full out lavender tub and beige floor tile. Haha. The only thing that really looks bad is that window. The frame looks pretty rough....See MoreK Laurence
