Review my plan please
Comments (14)gpraceman: I'm not sure if I had a special purpose for the space next to the ovens or not, but I had thought about what to do with it. I'm going to do some revisions and I'll see what it looks like with the ovens moved down. Thanks for you input. sena01, most meals are served all at once- we don't usually have courses. I would prep at the island (I plan to add a prep sink), but wondered if I needed to extend the island to incorporate the rounded eating area if in would reduce the functionality of the aisle in front of the main sink.. kiko: we have tried to orient things to the backyard/lake. I've oriented the island so I can look out to the lake as I prep. The windows over the kitchen sink would look over the backyard. I know people sitting at the island don't have a view, but I'm not sure how to change that, other than the rounded island posted above or changing the main sink wall to add an eating area there. I'll probably add a door to the grilling deck, and I've been working on ideas for cutting down the garage to pantry trek. Thanks for your ideas....See MoreHelp With Layout-new construction
Comments (16)I had a corridor kitchen once where traffic had to flow through it to get from one side of the house to the other. Never again. I would ride a unicycle buck-naked while juggling rotten tomatoes down my small town's main street if need be in order to never have one again. Look how much bigger your kitchen is without a door in the kitchen itself. I also moved the window/sink/DW a bit "north" in order to give more room for people working at clean-up and the cook so they don't back into each other. I would just put the door from laundry/mudroom to entry hall on one of those automatic self-closing hinge systems so the door would never be left open for people to be greeted by your laundry. That solves your laundry-as-a-focal-point issue and gives you a better kitchen. Problems solved....See MoreKitchen island vs table and chairs
Comments (7)I don't see an island accommodating 10 people, and if I had to choose never having casual seating at a counter vs never having seating at a table I would choose to jettison the counter. . Your configuration is not unusual. I would think a traditional rectangle would serve you well. When we expand our table the island counter is a great place for extra serving dishes after the initial passing. Perhaps look for a thinner table? Losing the counter overhang on the island would give you more room for chairs at the table too....See MoreCountertop you can iron on
Comments (22)I am intrigued by the idea of doing the ironing in a closet. When I am ironing, I need access to a TV and wine and none of my closets have that. Whenever I have ironed anything on a surface other than an ironing board, I have always found I needed some sort of padding underneath, which makes the countertop material less relevant. You can choose whatever looks good all the rest of the time that you are not using it as an ironing surface. For me, I would focus on making sure everything is ironed well before being put away and that the closet is designed for the clothes to hang without getting creased. That might not eliminate the need for top-ups, but it certainly minimizes it....See Moresuezbell
