I'm a New Mama (pass the cigars)
Comments (16)Thanks to all of you. I bought some seeds on ebay and I've been puting off planting them because I was afraid I might not do something right. So after Sammy and Karyn sent me some I thought what the heck, go ahead and give it a shot. Now I'm getting a seed mat and going to plant all the ones I've ordered. The others I just planted in those little flats with the clear plastic dome cover and the peat pots that expand when you add water. I watered the pots, let them dry out a bit. Brenda told me you could put them in your washer on the spin cycle and spin some of the water out. (LOL) I was afraid I'd make a mess in my washer, but I may very well try that next time. I know Brenda knows what she's talking about. I had soaked the seeds for 2 days, then planted them in the little individual pots with the soil light on top of them. 8 to 10 days later I had little green nub looking things popping up. Then a couple of days later elbows, then leafs. Now I can't wait to get a bunch more growing along with some other seeds I want to start. Kristy, when I first started potting up my brugs someone told me to use 50/50 perlite, and spag. peat moss. So far so good. I gave all of them a hot bath last week and they look 100% better. Of course I'm talking about my cuttings and not my babies. I'm thinking about making it a routine giving them a bath once a week to every 10 days. They sure responded well to it. I did not get the soil wet, I just use the sprayer in the kitchen sink. It was a little time consuming but I think from looking at them it was time well spent. That was to help with the bug problem too. Kristy, I'm looking forward to getting the Squash seeds anytime. Kylie, I can't wait to see what kind of seeds your going to share with me. (big fat grin) Thank YOu! Happy Day Dreaming about Spring and brugs and all kinds of other flowers. Marian...See MoreLittle guy made dinner; I am a proud mama!
Comments (28)Thanks all! I let little man read all your comments this morning. He was blushing and saying to himself, "I didn't cook this all by myself and I am not that good looking..." but I saw the sparks in his eyes and knew he secretly enjoyed the nice compliments. LOL I want to take advantage of his new found interest and run with it. We have decided that he would continue to make breakfast for his dad when he feels like it then dinner once a week, mostly Sunday. If he's up to it, maybe one easy dessert during the week. I got hubby hooked on bread making and now little man cooking, think I am ready to retire! LOL Pat, I guess the Xpress is sort of like a grill with much less capacity. We like it because it's small and very portable, just about the right size for a 7-year-old to handle. Karen, thanks for the link again. We have it bookmarked and have been checking it from time to time. We haven't tried out any of their recipes yet but I am sure we soon will. Rusty, I believe you're right about soda crackers = saltine crackers. Here in Canada (at least the part where we live) soda cracker is an ethnic food that has a different look and taste. They are bigger, fluffier and have no salt on the surface. The recipe definitely calls for saltine crackers because when little man finished crushing the crumbs, it turned out just the right amount. If we had used the "soda crackers" found in the Asian store, we would end up having way too much crumbs. Chase, I noticed the difference too! LOL Thanks again everyone. Your comments definitely reassure his positive experience at first attempt. I greatly appreciate it....See Morequilt from baby pajamas
Comments (9)I posted a reply earlier but don't see it anywhere. I am so pleased that I didn't purchase the polycotton. Was at the store looking at what they had and it didn't feel right to go with the pajama fabric, so told hubby who was with me that I was going to go home and post on the Quilting Forum for advice. The pajamas are different types but all stretchy and I also used part of some of her onesies. I am now considering either the flannel or 100% cotton. Going to take a square from the quilt when I go out of town (an hr drive away) to see what I can find at the fabric store there. Not much around here anymore in fabrics. I like the dark purple squares and have a couple more to include but think I am going to send DIL a photo and see what she has to say about the dark ones. I am also considering exchanging the car square with the pink centre one. That one is a girl with a bicycle that I cut from her onesie that I gave her. The car square does stand out better for the center. I already have the Warm and White batting purchased. I think it is 80/20 but not sure. Couldn't find anything on the bag it is in that says that but doesn't matter, I have to preshrink it, Its says 3% shrinkage. I purchased 2 of those from Joann's 50% off so got a pretty good price even with the cost of shipping it to Canada. I have plans for making another quilt for her big sister. . Thanks for the advice and more opinions are welcome if anybody has any other ideas of what might work. I will definitely post a picture of it once the quilt is finished. I have everything put aside until I can find the fabric I need....See MoreHELP!! Mama needs safety fence advice!!
Comments (5)With a skilled tech, the mesh barrier fences will be installed taught. These fences depend on that for their strength. Both the top and bottom, when vertical and properly spaced, will make the fence wrinkle/wave free. It also improves its overall appearance. Don't hang the towels on it to dry unless you like stretch marks in the mesh. While tubes to hold the base of the poles are normally available, the should only be used for pavers or a single pole in a lawn. Lawns don't allow for a tight fence over more than a few months before they come loose. Lawn installations also make grass cutting and trimming more difficult. Self closing gates are optional usually, but they make more holes and are a PITA when removing the fence and putting it back up, like for a Winterized pool or a party. Storage of a removed fence may be easier with lighter fiberglass poles as opposed to the heavier but stiffer aluminum poles. It makes a significant difference, especially when carrying a couple 10' sections of fencing. Fences are typically 48" high. There are some brands that are 52" high which will have a longer useful life given that the child must grow more to reach the latching hardware that ties fence sections together. These latches should always be on the pool side you're blocking off. It's just that much more that a child must grow to be able to reach the latches. Most installs are done using a core drill to keep the fence poles true. If the socket is off a bit, the pole's top will be too but in the opposite direction. Fiberglass poles are more forgiving than aluminum ones since they have some flex to them. Direct supervision is always needed but when you are distracted, the barrier fence can give you the extra time you may need. Scott...See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
