Sharing some wedding/shower gift ideas

I know a number of people have weddings coming up.. I've received so many great gift ideas here over the years, I thought I'd share a few that I came across.

I bought a number of pieces of pottery from a local shop as a shower gift. I really like the little shop and the owners were so very helpful as I shopped (last minute!). The stunners of the shop (for me) were the large platters, the soup tureens and most especially the teapots. Here's a video from Martha Stewart about the shop and particularly how the teapot is made.

The bowl/platter above is super huge-- and while all my photos are similar glazes, there is a variety of finishes from which to choose. Prices range from 125 (medium tureen) to 150 (teapot) to 385 (very large platter/pasta bowl).

The second idea was actually my sister's. She had an iron sign made with the long and latitude of the mountain on which my niece was engaged. It reduced my niece to tears.. and will surely be most treasured (they are very much a "map" family).

We received some lovely artisan pottery for our wedding. At the time I thought "oh, this is not my style", but it turns out it totally is!

Perhaps you could clip roses for the bouquet and rosebuds for boutonnieres for the groom and the father of the bride from one of your rosebushes and then transplant the bush to the couple's new home. If the couple is going to be living in an apartment, or will be moving frequently, use a miniature rosebush that can live in a container. Clip roses from one rosebush for the bouquet (perhaps in white), and the rosebud for the groom's boutonniere from another (perhaps red). Transplant the bushes on either side of their doorstep. If you use roses from climbing roses, you could plant one on either side of an arched trellis at their home and have them grow together across it. Dry the petals of your best scented roses, sew inside a sachet-sized silk pillow, and store with your daughter's wedding gown. Make an album with a plasticine envelope containing pressed, dried petals from each of the flowers used in your daughter's wedding. Head the page with a quote about the flower, or the meaning of the flower. YOu can print these out in very pretty fonts on your computer, cut "mats" of colored cardstock, and put them under the clear covers of each page. You can also get such quotations printed on cards at bookstores. Also on the page put a picture of either just the bride, or the bride and groom together that epitomizes the quotation. Ray

I was scurrying to post before a meeting. I know a Hershey gift card may seem strange but really, the number of properties and venues owned by Hershey is wild.. Hershey Gardens, the Spa at Hershey, ZooAmerica, Hershey Arena (Hershey Bears hockey), Hershey Stadium (rock concerts) a number of restaurants in the area as well as the theater and amusement park. The whole town is geared towards family entertainment. I am surprised I never thought of this before. It was sparked by their love of Broadway and wanting to initiate their son to the theater but there are so many different things to do throughout the year and as his/their interests change. I feel good about this gift.. and given that there are 4 Broadway shows coming up that my niece has said they want to see, I think they will ALL be pleased. And I think it will be fun to package.. ideas welcome!

Yah well pottery is certainly a matter of style. It won’t work for all. But then I think that applies to most gifts.

i think these prices are much better than a lot of the NE Potter’s I’ve checked out and they ship anywhere which is why I shared.... and I thought the video making the teapot was very cool.

I have a number of their pieces that I bought years ago when they used to do the Pa. Guild of Craftsmen Show in Bucks County and also had their work in a local shop. The quality of their work is excellent and I’ve bought it for gifts as well. A couple of weeks ago I came across their shop on Etsy. MFitzgeraldpottery. I remember them being very nice to deal with.

I didn't realize they were on etsy also.. and how cool that you have pieces also, Chickadee!

I bought a pitcher for myself.. but I would love to have a few more pieces.

If you enjoy this type of pottery and are in the NC area, you should visit Sea Grove. It's a whole town of potters. In season you can drive from tiny shop to tiny shop (some are literally aluminum sheds). Each potter's work is different. It's a whole day's experience. I love every piece I have.

‘Never heard of Seagrove so had to look it up. My sister-in-law lives in Pinehurst and it looks like they’re both on the same scenic trail. I’ll keep that in mind next time we visit her. Thanks.

I'm very, hmmm, transactional, when it comes to wedding gifts. I decide my price point, I go to the registry, I get something, and done. They got something they want and can use; I didn't have to think much, everybody's a winner.

But those pieces are amazing. I wouldn't mind getting something like that at all.

I hear you, cawaps, this niece's had admired my pottery mugs for years-- and that was the reason for the trip (though mine are from a potter in Mississippi). I ended up with more because of the quality.
