Jenn-Air French Door v. SubZero French door refrigerator
Comments (9)Thanks for your input. A fully integrated refrigerator allows the doors of the refrigerator to be completely flush with the cabinets next to it. The hinges allow the door to fold into the cabinet, rather than outside it. A counter depth refrigerator will stick out a couple of inches, and even if panel ready, will still show an inch or 2 of the sides of the refrigerator. I've even been told counter depth panel ready will show a bit of metal on the front door. It has to do with the door hinges. I didn't think there was a difference between built-in and fully integrated, but I could be wrong. My issue with SZ is the lack of split shelves, which we occasionally use to stand taller items like opened wine bottles or pots of soup. We are a family of four, with 2 boys 10,12 who are definitely hitting growth spurts! The SZ FD also only comes in 36" vs JAN 42", so there is smaller capacity. I'm wondering if we shouldn't just go with panel ready counter depth so we have more brand options and see if we can customize the cabinets to hide the sides. Any thoughts , has anyone done? _______________________________...See MoreBuilt in vs Panel Ready
Comments (9)Built in is INSTALLED and can accept panels or be SS (ie Sub Zero). Panel ready accepts panels to match cabinets and is a free standing unit, NOT installed. But you can make it look more built in by enclosing it with cabinets and end panels. When I design a kitchen for someone with a non-built in refrigerator., I make the end panels deeper....up to the box depth, for a more built in look. (27"-30" deep usually). Integrated is when you can't tell if it's a cabinet or an appliance....See MoreWill a 36” single door Sub-Zero fit in this space?
Comments (20)Ah! You have a similar challenge to what I had with that protruding wall. Is there a lot of movement / congregating happening in front of that door to the garage? If so, I might actually go for the 30” all-fridge and get separate freezer drawers. Not so much to accommodate the wall space, but to account for “traffic” in the immediate area. I do think you could get away with the 36” classic fridge like what I have (except yours would be a left hinge). It also depends how much space you have for the freezer drawers. The single unit obviously takes up less space! The one semi bummer with the single door configuration is that if you are coming into the kitchen from the door, unloading groceries might be a little more complicated. I imagine now you just put the things on the island and load up the fridge. With a single door left hinge, you would have to put the groceries on the counter to the right of the fridge to avoid walking around the door to tuck the groceries inside the fridge, if that makes sense. I’ve attached a photo of my kitchen before and after so you can see what I was working with! My cabinets are semi custom and just the manufacturers stock white and grey colors (Fabuwood). I saved a lot of money this way - cabinets for the entire kitchen were only a little more than the Subzero!...See MoreSub Zero Flush Inset with Barker Cabinets
Comments (2)No it is not that simple. The opening and finished returns are so that when you open the doors you are not seeing the inside of an unfinished ref panel ( some companies come that way ) . You are also looking to do a flush inset application for the ref. That means the pocket for the ref must be wider than a standard installation since the idea is that the door face is even with the ref end panels. Follow the instructions from sub zero for the pocket size and the cleat size/position needed. It really is not hard to do - just a lot of measuring and making sure the installer knows what they are doing. Hope this helps!...See MoreJennifer Hutton Interiors
