Comments (19)I appreciate all the input. I have to relook, seems I looked for unfinished furniture in Omaha and didn't find much which was sort of surprising - except that there is one furniture store that dominates the whole town and sort of drives out the competition. Whimzkl - I tried your my page for your email but there wasn't one - if you recheck this thread I would appreciate the websites. I took the advice and found some Amish stores 50 and 150 miles from here and one 150 miles away said they have a guy that will make me a bed if it isn't too elaborate. Boy - does that complicate things. Now you have to figure what do you really want? If I want a mattress on a platform but regular height - will it look toally weird to have the legs that long? Exactly how much footboard if any? Yow. I am going slowly and still looking and thinking and trying to decided. Any inputs still helpful. Went to a furniture store yesterday that carried Stickley. Ahhhh. Stickley. I could live with all Stickley forever. If I win the Lotto...........See More3 year old toddler transitioning from Crib to bed...Many Problems
Comments (4)Have you tried offering a reward for staying in her bed all night? As far as transitioning to the new bed, let her help pick out her new bedding so she has some involvement. You might pick out a couple of options in advance and let her choose from those other she might go off on a whole new theme. Brag up how she is such a big girl to get the new bed. Have you friends and neighbors brag her up too. My kids liked to turn the light on too. I fixed the problem by getting (I don't know what this is called) a thing I could screw into the light socket. It sort of looks like a light socket. You can buy them at Wal-Mart back by the light switch covers. Anyway, it had a pull chain on it (some come with an extra outlet). I would just turn the light off at the bulb every night so flipping the switch didnt work. I put a night light in the extra outlet so the kids can't reach it. I would move the furniture away from the light switch so she doesn't have a reason to be climbing. Since your dd seems to enjoy her time in isolation, I would probably leave the door open. Give her a consequence for every time she wanders out. You may have to take away a toy or some other action. Don't sit and talk to her. Make a simple statement and return her to bed. After the first time, just use a gesture and no words. Don't let her have the attention she's wanting. If she knows you mean business, she'll quit. Good luck! She will get over this....See Moretwin bed or full bed for a toddler
Comments (9)We went with a full size bed. our DS didn't need it, but Mom and Dad did......He went through a period of needing someone to lay down with him to fall asleep during the night terror times. So we upsized to ensure if we were laying down with him and happened to fall asleep, we might get a couple hours of decent rest, rather than hanging off the side of a twin..... And he loves the big bed, can share with his cousin if they have a sleep over....See MoreFull size Daybed with trundle
Comments (9)Well, the one that you've pictured will be easier to make than one with a headboard and footboard as well as the side piece, but it still won't be as easy as a free-standing bed of any size. There's simply no way to easily tuck in the sheets/blankets/quilt/duvet on that one side of the bed. You'd have to stand at one end and lift the mattress and shove the bedding under it. You know your daughter. How likely is she to do this on a daily basis? You'll have similar issues with a full bed against the wall, but you can put the bed on casters and make it easy to move the bed away from the wall. Most kids I know love sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags or on air mattresses. Unless she's going to be having overnight guests on a weekly basis, I'd get a bed that works for the 90% of the time she doesn't have guests, and a cot or air mattress or sleeping bag for the times she does....See Moreer612
