I hate clear cutting..will this leave the lot naked?..have you seen this area in the summer?..will it reduce your privacy and shade?..just some thoughts..in my neighborhood they left the trees and I'm thankful..

If all you do is cut it once, then yes, it will resprout, and in an even brushier style, with multiple small stems for each set of roots. Turning grown up field back to an open area will take multiple cuttings for multiple years. Stumps need to be cut flush to the ground to facilitate the mowing and mowing needs to be done frequently enough so that leaves and stems can't regrow to provide food for the remaining roots. We ended up purchasing a used tractor to pull a brush hog to return our old fields to only grass since it is surprising how difficult and time consuming using a walk behind brush cutter is, even for just a few acres. Sometimes you can hire someone to do this type of mowing with larger equipment, but I would take some time to evaluate whether cutting it all down is the best approach for you at this time. Even a large brush cutter won't cut things larger than a couple of inches in diameter and you appear to have some good-sized trees there that need a chain saw if you don't want them.

With a distance panorama photo like this, and no marks to show the boundaries of your property or where you plan to site the house, it is impossible to judge whether removing It all is a good idea or not. What species are growing there are impossible to ID, and some might be of value to keep. Trees that are small but already established like these will grow faster than anything you could plant later. (My neighbor clearcut his 2 acre lot, and then replanted saplings of many of the same species within feet of ones he cleared that even 15 years later still aren't close to the size of the trees he removed without considering their potential.) Often there is a reason for trees that are limited to one part of a field such as this appears to be, either left as a wind block or the spot is lower and collects drainage from the rest of the field leaving it damp at some seasons.

Trees will help ground a house visually, and may help reduce HVAC bills in hot weather if they shade the house or serve as a wind block in winter. You will need equipment on site when you are ready to build, so any clearing needed may best be done at that time. I am not saying that you shouldn't ever remove trees, just that I am not convinced that clearing everything at this time with a walk behind brush mower is the either the easiest or most practical choice here.

I cleared out about a quarter acre similar to this but with more trees and some alot bigger. I used a chainsaw to cut them as low as possible. I carried around a spray bottle of full strength brush killer and sprayed the fresh cut trunk. Most(probably 80%) of the trees did not come back. Some did start suckering the next year and I broke off all the new shoots and buried the trunk in a pile of leaves(compost) . It will start breaking down the trunk as everything else decomposes. Or get a small metal cylinder and fill it with charcoal. or just a pile of charcoal and light it up and burn the stump to the ground.

Rent goats, they eat everything.

I started off with a bulldozer and saved me a lot of work. I did a lot of contouring once I got the stumps and brush out of the way so I could burn them. Ask around and hire a pro with multiple good recommendations. I did my own dozing.
