No shutters - wrong for the clean lines of your lovely ranch home, imo I think it is a great idea to take the bushes out of the planters. That will open up the full height of the windows, which will make the body of the house feel taller and work better with the strong roof line. A trellis mounted between the two windows on the left, filled with something climbing and pretty, would be a nice way to break up the long expanse of brick there. The door color does seem a brighter red, and perhaps something rusty would be better. Hard to tell what the real effect is from a distance, tho, in the pix you have posted. I would look for a more modern light fixture for the front door. The carriage light says colonial to me. How about something like this? kichler transitional bronze wall light I think the light has a cleaner line, but not too modern, and echoes the multiple panes in your windows, not fighting with the circles in the front door glass.

Agree 100% with the others. Your brick is actually quite nice, but the roof most definitely clashes with the brick. The landscaping is all wrong for your property as everyone has mentioned. Having a tree up against the house is not good for your home or the tree. Get a landscape plan together that includes a substantial walkway to the front door. Once you change out the landscaping you might be able to get away with the roof color until you need a new roof as beanie1922 above states.

Instead of painting the brick, if you still don't like them after having them sand blasted, consider staining them rather than painting them -- that would be a mistake. Seriously consider extending the deck the full width of the house -- better for use and resale value. alternately, build a covered porch from the deck and wrapping around the corner of the house, stopping at the chimney. If the deck (or a porch) were extended all the way to the end of the house, the higher ground would mean you'd only need a couple of steps to reach a patio on the end of your home. justgottabeme has the right idea with painting the foundation and window frames and siding already painted; however, you might consider using CWF or a dark, absorbant stain on the deck top and rails, painting only the posts (even with the foundation) rather than painting the actual deck or using a "solid stain" that looks like paint and, in my experience, doesn't hold up all that well..

Don't paint the brick, it is beautiful and classic! Change the shutters, either white or black make them wider 1/2 the window width so they look like they are functional. You have room for the shutters to be a bit wider without completely covering up the corners. For shutters.... If possible I would change the octagonal window in the roof peak it seems too small for the gable size. Or maybe add a gable return all the way across the gable pediment.... Here are some examples, I have never been a fan of the porkchop returns. And it would be perfect for your home style which looks to be Greek revival? More modern take on it...
