I would go with a soft white...no yellow in this space....looks like the counter tops are gray...could go with a gray in the same tone just a shade lighter as the counters..warm gray not cool...you do not want your walls to look blue.

if you can swing it, I'd do a subway tile backsplash in white, and paint the walls in a deeper color. it would bring in nice contrast.

I'd also paint the white on the island black.

Get rid of the boob light over the sink and do a hanging pendant light. you have nice high ceilings. utilize them

bring in some pattern/color w/a blind on the window.

these all work w/the yellow toned oak.

I think your cabinets might be maple:)

White, cream, creamy beige, blues and greens would work. Maple is about the only warm wood that works well with gray - though keep it light, and it's possible gray might bring out more of the yellow.

I love the blue here - it makes the beautiful cabinets pop. Plus, it's soothing for those frantic nights when you're trying to get dinner on the table.

Be careful...remember you have dark gray countertops....keep that in mind when choosing a color...some colors will give a very Country look...what style are you trying to achieve? Farmhouse..modern..contemporary...?

Eventually I would like to replace the countertops with white (with grey swirl) quartz and replace the sink with an under counter mount.

I am going for more of a modern/contemporary feel.

I do not want it to feel farmhouse/cottage-y.

That thundercloud is an awesome color. Try that.

Before you start changing things, please get a cohesive plan. What do you want the end product to be? Putting new countertops on old cabinets can look like putting lipstick on a pig. Best to know what the end result will be, then you can make informed decisions. And not come back here with a HELP me correct my errors!!!

I don't think your flooring will support a white quartz. I think it may have too much beige in it.

Won't lilac, or any blues with a purple undertone, make the yellow look even more pronounced? (because yellow's opposite is purple)

here are a couple kitchens with neutral walls and golden cabinets...thought they might help with the visual..

Those last examples are nice.

Contrasting color can be nice--I really like blue walls with orange wood. To me it's only a problem when it's not deliberate. Like if you want gray walls, but your yellow wood brings out the purple undertones you didn't notice in the gray, so your walls look like a weird lavender.

I think soft grey on walls and white marble backsplash like polished Carrara White marble would look amazing and very clean with your countertop and the cabinets. This would be a great option in my opinion if you're trying to achieve a more contemporary look.
