How wide are your Shaker rails?
Comments (19)I've been wondering the same thing. Can some of you who responded post pictures of yours? This blogger chose 3" said it's not as common http://www.mariakillam.com/2012/05/marias-kitchen-details.html A few pics of her finished kitchen. Would like to see more of the cabs from different angles without the Xmas decor and photo staging do-dads. http://www.mariakillam.com/2012/12/marias-christmas-white-kitchen-before-after.html...See MoreCan I do shaker cabs if the doors in the house are raised panel?
Comments (9)You absolutely can. While we had new doors made in recessed panels (it's only because I liked them) and shaker recessed doors in the kitchen (again because I liked them) the previous owner left behind some beautiful built ins in the dining room and living room with raised panel doors. I didn't think twice. I think they look beautiful together, especially given that "technically" the living and dining room are more "formal" areas. Whatever, it works. Also, I think the simplicity of those shaker doors really transcends style and fits just about anywhere. If you look at the second picture below, you can see the recessed panels in kitchen and the raised in dining room corner cupboard. No problem to my eye. Comments (8)Stretchad, Do the kitchen the way you want. Once it's finished, you may look at the rest of the house with fresh eyes, and you may decide to redo the trim (I would replace rather than just paint). No matter which colour you choose for the kitchen, it's not going to make the 80's finish in the rest of the house go away. Unfortunately :>( We are doing a complete reno of a 70's house from top to bottom (not quite 3000 sq ft), and at the moment not one single room is untouched, ie every where is in disarray (well, except for the laundry room), if the ceiling hasn't been torn down, or the walls gutted, then the room is filled with boxes of flooring, new toilets to be installed, furniture and boxes from some other room being worked on... so I feel your pain! Really, if all you need to do is replace trim to update your whole house, you're laughing!...See MoreBest cabinet brand for thin shaker style kitchen cabinets
Comments (12)@Helen Spiel The stiles and rails on Lowes Shaker-style Kraftmaid cabinets (name is Deveron) are 2-3/16 inch wide. There are a few "white oak" wood options with a variety of stains, though I am not familiar with them since I am purchasing white cabinets. Kraftmaid has a new wood stain called Shortbread which is light and clean looking. 30% off right now, although that special runs every other week. I prefer Lowes to Home Depot because I cannot abide by the strong chemical smells characteristic of HD stores, and Lowes employees seem to be at a higher caliber than HD kitchen folks. In 2004 we renovated a kitchen using Kraftmaid cabinets. We repainted those cabinets white in 2022 and sold the house in a week. There were never any structural issues with the cabinets. I will be ordering my white shaker cabinets from Lowes tomorrow. You might hire a designer as well or your GC might have one. It's up to you. You have more options with a cabinet maker, for sure. I hope you enjoy the planning stage! PS What are rubbed glass doors?...See MoreEvaDesigns
