Closing off interior doorway/cased opening

We recently removed a load bearing wall between our kitchen and living room. We want to now close off the arched opening that leads to the hallway from the kitchen since we can get to the hallway now from the old entrance to the living room. This will give use more wall space for cabinets and to add a peninsula when we redo our kitchen. In the image below, the arched opening is the one we want to close:

My question is, when I close off the interior doorway, do I need to remove the hardwood floor below it before putting in the bottom plate or can I just install the bottom plate right over the hardwood floor?
