Counters need to be level. I would be upset too but see what they will do. Do not like that repair at all but the seam looks good.

Pull the sink, recut, re-profile, and re-polish the cut out on site with a slight positive sink reveal, which would have been my preference anyway, and reinstall the sink. 4 hours tops.

P.S.:

I'd give a customer their deposit back before I'd agree to put that sharp an angled edge at a sink. That's a chip factory and won't last a week.

Joseph, thank you for the advice. Does re-cutting and polishing the edge create a ton of dust?

Not if it's done properly.

You simply can not level the counters if the cabinets are not level in the first place. You will have a gap under the counter where it meets the cabinet and doing so causes issues with point loads leading to cracking the stone and also voiding the warranty.

You do not need to cut the joins, they can be easily popped if you know what you are doing, cleaned and reset.

From your photos I would say there is some serious out of level and plumb issues with the cabinets. Cabinet levels should be the first thing that is checked before installing the counters

The cabinets were leveled before counters were installed. The issue was with the install of the counters. The one end was out of level almost half an inch in a 6 ' span. I put a soup can on the far end and it very quickly rolled all the way to the sink.

The installers were training a new employee the day of install, and I imagine he was running the level.

You could actually see the counters curved upwards at the end of that span, and it was over shimmed. They have since removed and replaced shimmed that end to be level, however my other issues still remain.

Virtually every countertop installation, no matter how level the cabinets, gets some shimming, especially with natural stone because of the slab's varying thicknesses. QSCCRE's concern about point loading is a good one, so the shims have to be plentiful, consistent, and the thinner the better.

Joseph Corlett, LLC the thickness variation standard is +/-2mm and that NO shims should be used as if you place a thick bead of silicone it will pick up any variations. Ps we have never used shims etc for an install, we always check the cabinets and our cabinetmakers know we will not install counters unless two things. The cabinets are absolutely level and true, and the feet they use to support and adjust the cabinets are load rated for the stone counter top weight.

Not that using of shims etc with quartz or natural will cause a point load and also void the warranties.

Yes, a thick bead of silicone will pick up any variations, but what holds the top in position until the silicone sets up the next day? Shims.

No, the tops should sit flush to the cabinet carcass the silicone will fill any variations etc. Where the counter pieces meet, the setting of the seams will fix the pieces at that junction level and true allowing the silicone to set in place. Rarely we use tile wedges until the seams have all be set and then they are pulled out on the final clean.

Thank you Cambria for the message. Yes, you guys have reached out to me yesterday via phone and a technician is scheduled for later this month to address the difference in edge profiles. The installer will be coming back Friday to repair the sink area. I will update this thread once repairs have taken place. Although I am still upset that I have had to deal with this all in the first place, I will say that I have no complaints with Cambria's service so far.

Joseph, what don't you get, the cabinets should be level and there is no need to shim. Shiming will void all warranties on any stone, quartz or porcelain

That simply. If you are having to shim, you have some serious issues to do with the cabinets.

That's great, you have void the warranty on hundreds of stone tops, unless you have installed hundreds of laminate ones instead.

I was a Certified Corian Fabricator/Installer for a decade or so. I got two warranty calls and each were ruled customer abuse by DuPont, Corian's manufacturer. I am a Certified Zodiaq (DuPont's engineered stone) Installer, so I think I would have gotten a warranty claim by now if any were coming.

Joseph Corlett, LLC Corain is a long way from quartz or any stone product. It repairs differently as it is Plastic! We are licences to repair corian as well though it does not mean that it is the same as quartz or stone and it is NOT! Zodiaq certification for installing does not mean that you know how to repair the stone.. just mean you know the basics to install it

No way is a quartz guy going to talk to me about plastic in countertops. Your filler is quartz, mine is ATH. Engineered stone is classified as a solid surface by the International Surface Fabricators Association.

Typical Mondays Expert's comments..... at the end of the day corian is not crosslinked why it can be heat, ultrasonic or chemical bonded. ITS PLASTIC!

What do you think ATH is?? gee...it's a flame retardant that is added to plastics.... I think you need to go do some more Corian training to actually find out what it actually is. My advice is get your facts right before you sprout off.
