Recycle bin full ... latest RH catalog mailer
Comments (44)This was the first time that I've actually kept any of the RH catalogs. Some of them I ditched right away w/o even flipping through them. I kept the Small Spaces catalog because it isn't so dark and I kept the Tableware catalog because of the colors. I may buy some of the table linens. I really liked the Grand Brassiere Entertaining Collection and the Vintage Hotel Silver Collection. I will say that I liked having separate catalogs for Tableware and 'Objects of Curiousity' (Peterman's voice was in my head as I read " These genuine millstone artifacts spent their years grinding corn...." pretentious). Sometimes I just want to see what's available and not have to scan a whole page trying to figure out what accessories are for sale, which ones aren't and then try to find the price somewhere. Never fails I always want what's not for sale Lol!...See MoreWhat does an expensive kitchen look like?
Comments (42)I'd define "expensive looking" with the details. Basics -everything is completed, no unfinished edges, trim, etc -trim, even if simple, is properly installed -finished end panels (even IKEA offers them) -no obvious patches (like caulking over a 1/2 inch gap at the wall or random trim added to hide something) -adequate lighting (of any kind) "Upgrades" that might add some cost -deeper cabinet over fridge and side panels -paint on the walls that isn't white or very light "builder beige" -matching appliances (of any brand) -flooring that's not beige tile or sheet vinyl -most consider granite expensive, or quartz, but if you pick one of the new laminates make sure you don't have those lines where sheets meet at the edges. There are plenty of edge options now, and even squared off edges can almost disappear -undermount sink -faucet and pulls in whatever finish is big where you are (probably not 3 inch brass look) -if you have an outlet under the sink for the GD, an air switch for the GD. They are like $50 plus a hole in the counter if you are getting a new counter. Getting the hole might cost a lot if someone has to come out just for that. -colors/materials that look cohesive -lots of clear counter space -window treatments that fit in with the design Now, someone interested in more than how it looks might want more. But basically I think you'd want anyone passing through the get the impression that the room is cohesive, bright, not small, and not have anything that stands out as out of place or slapped together....See MoreWhere can I find a product like this RH one: professors dbl chair
Comments (11)dee -- I emailed you, but I figured out who you meant. The other quotes I received for that sofa are around $2200+-.... that sounds much better. kmcg --- I have seen the chair in person, so I know exactly what you're talking about. It is SMALL. There is no way my husband would fit in the single chair.... The reason I considered the double chair is because we really need something small for in front of our bed. This chair is short enough, yet it would be wide enough for him to sit comfortably. I measured our space again today and I think 34" high is even too tall to look right.... I'm considering the Fulton sofa dee mentioned, but I'm still searching for some options closer to 30" height for the space.... I think the chairs/sofas in the following photo look decent since they aren't (much) taller than the bed... I'm open to other suggestions if anyone thinks differently. :)...See MoreCorner headboard or bed (double/full size)?
Comments (21)Thanks so much for all the ideas! I'm a little skittish about anything DIY; I've seen the Pinterest tutorials but I've got a long list of projects that need to be done whereas this one seems like something I should shop for! @aprilneverends, I love all those ideas - if only I could afford one of those cool RH beds (of course if I could, I would probably have a house with ginormous rooms for kids and this wouldn't be a concern.) @lilysroom & @robo & @chibimini - you have me thinking hard about the right bed size. He's the tallest kid in his school and while that may taper off eventually it's a decent bet he'll be over 6' at minimum. So the length of a queen bed might be more sensible. We had one in there when it was a guest room (pre kid #2) and his other furniture is pretty slim so I'm sure I could fit one. We're putting hardwood floors upstairs in the next month, so my hope is try to coordinate this and minimize the amount of furniture the guys have to move as they install. This is his messy day-before-school starts room; the other wall has a very shallow, tall bookshelf:...See Morebeaniebakes
