> lee - curious about your Gerber model. We are looking at the viper, not only because it is compact but also for the 1" clearance behind it. Our rough-in is only 11-1/2" and the current toilet fits snug against the wall - actually the lid does not go on right. I did read some bad reviews on the viper, but there seem to be those for any toilet. We are also looking at the Cadet 3 for the back wall clearance ( few toilets have that 1"), but the one we want (skirted) extends 30". What's there to say? Like all 1.28 gallon per flush toilets i've seen, I'd prefer more water coverage in the bowl, but at least the Viper sends slightly swirled jets of water down the sides and back of the bowl and a larger flume down the front, so it stays clean and thus far hasn't clogged. Viper is Gerber's midrange line; they also have a higher-end Avalanche model (21-014) that's supposed to flush slightly better. It's slightly shallower front to back, has a slightly larger water spot, is one-piece (no gap between bowl and tank), and includes a soft-close seat that's worth at least $40. I didn't buy it because it was still more expensive, the seat is perhaps a bit too high (5/8" taller than the Viper), and I find the front-mounted flush lever on the Viper more convenient to use than the side-mount lever on the Avalanche that's precariously close to the open rim. I did use a Gerber Avalanche elsewhere in the house, but it's a full-depth, non-compact version that uses 1.6 gallons rather than 1.28 and unsurprisingly is reputed to work better. The compact version is 1.28g only. The 1.6g Avalanche is terrific, splashing water all over the wall before flushing everything down.

Great job on removing the previous wallpaper!! My last house was like that and that is a tedious job scraping it all off!! What colors do you have outside of this powder room? You might want to coordinate with the hallway outside of the room, and that may help steer you in the right direction as far as what color scheme to go with. To select wallpaper options, try going to a local store that has lots of wallpaper books. (I just did a successful wallpaper search for a room that I am doing at my local Sherwin Williams store. They had TONS of books to look through.) If you find a few paper patterns that you like, check the books out for a few days and bring them home. Prop the books up against the walls in your powder room to help you visualize what it would like with your lighting. Also another option is to either do a wainscoting on the lower half of the wall and do wallpaper on the upper half. If wainscoting is not your thing, you could do a simple chair rail - paint the lower half a white or other neutral color, and the upper half of the wall could have the wallpaper. This helps break up the monotony of a pattern and keeps the lines calm. I did that once in a powder room in my last house...the wallpaper pattern I chose was on the "busy" side, but it looked fabulous on the upper part of the wall with a solid coordinating color painted below it. My personal opinion is that LESS IS MORE in powder rooms because they tend to be small spaces. I like your ideas about a sconce or maybe a simple shelf. For TP storage, sometimes baskets are nice too! Keep us posted on your decision-making process!!

Keep your home's traditional bones in mind. You've got dentil crown molding and it doesn't get more traditional than that. You can use farmhouse touches but I would limit them to art and mirror so you don't Frankenstein your home. I wouldn't paint it navy because of the dark floor and because there is a fair amount of wall space. I'd focus on the sink area and would consider replacing the sink, faucet, mirror, and lighting. I would remove the cabinet and put open shelves on the wall opposite the toilet. Upgrade to a Kohler Memoirs pedestal sink (photo). A large print wallpaper works well in this similar powder room. You need larger art for the far wall.

Since it is a small room with no windows, I would not go dark on both the walls and the cabinetry. If you do a dark blue on the walls, everything else should be light to contrast and keep the space from looking too dark (i.e. a soft white cabinet and lighter floors as well).
